Herm: I’m calling out management. There is a lack of institutional oversight over these social media platforms that allow these easily correctable mistakes from being published. That clearly falls on management to fix it. We have a process in place to review stories by multiple people before it goes over air. Why isn’t there a similar process for web stories and social media posts? You worked at 25. You now work in Detroit. This crap would have been fixed by now by managers who care. The problem we have now is managers who have priorities misplaced at 25-66.

So there’s a process for stories that go over the air, which no one watches, but no process for anything that goes on the Internet and social media? Seems about right.

Lovin: multiple people check on air scripts. EP/producer, anchors, even the news director when there are concerns.

However, no one looks over website and social media posts... which allows for these types of mistakes to happen over and over again.

It is on both the employee who typed it wrong — and for management who puts in the systems (or lack thereof) — to get it right. It’s been discussed multiple times about the need for quality control measures, but nothing ever changes and these mistakes keep happening.

Who knows? Maybe the accountant in chief will come out of his office for more than one of his “look at me” tours of the newsroom and actually do something constructive. I’m not holding my breath, but it would be a nice change of pace.

Probably best to interrupt the parade when the Super Bowl is aired on one of those stations to tell them more people read online and the quality control should start there at the expense of the on-air product that only Hotrod Harris watches.

Nope I’m blaming 25-66 managers who had years to put in oversight and accountability... and still have done nothing. And I blame 25-66’s Chief Apologist. Without the enablers and yes men/women, changes to improve station culture and morale would greatly improve. And maybe, just maybe, employees wouldn’t bolt after one contract cycle, ratings would improve leading to increased revenue, and that would lead to even more grilled cheese sandwich days for everyone!

The thing is, they’re so understaffed, if someone is out with coronavirus, even for a short time, who’s going to cover their shift? When Achmed took time off to have a baby (grateful he didn’t kill it like screen glare supports), they pulled a guy off news to do weather. Will the “in over her head news director” start reporting? Will Hotrod Harris get pulled back in?
