Another horrendous book for Q105

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

Woe! Nobody cares about Q105 today. Legal ead way off! 4:39 pm, to be exact. Like I said, "@" in the media field of the legal ID rack number... then 74 minutes of music and sweeps, within Stratus... or another option often used: Team Viewer into the old Gary Shores office and the Q105 OpX. A few folks do not care, as long as spots clear. Well... what happens at 12 am? Blank silence, which is easily translated to "tune out." Atlanta... this is partly why your station gets shit ratings. Hire people who care, cross their "T's" and dot their "I's." If radio is not their FIRST LIFE, then ditch them as PD's! They are there for fame and a check!

By the way, the Cliff Smithers Christmas sweeper got old 15 yrs ago on K100. Get original!

There are plenty of female listeners in Toledo that want a station besides K100 to listen to, so wake-up, work on Q105 and give them something worth while to listen to.

Not just the P1's. Remember all of the demo's that listen.

35 songs in rotation, is the worst factor.

2nd worst is the non-compelling morning show, without public interest information. FYI... same exact mp3 traffic report for 2 hrs is also not in public interest.

Also, adding a female (Alex) to the morning show will not cut it. Stop asking for "favorite past Club Bijou moments" and start being pertinent and modern. LGBTQ must also be included. "Lady caller panel" shuns listeners away through heterosexism. I, personally, would sue for exclusion, if I could. Mix 96.7 (Fostoria-Tiffin-Findlay) at least includes LGBTQ peoples.

Yet another example of how unimportant to the 25-54 P1's+ Q105 seems to be....

Guess the rap song! Yes, the studio mates engaged the audience by themselves guessing urban and rap songs today. BTW, music they do not air. Woke up Saturday morning at 7:16 am to this tripe. But as you all know, that was one of this past week's bits... they were not live. Good way to exclude your listeners.

Cumulus' best bet is to ditch the Eric Chase show. It is not getting to us P1's, in a meaningful way. Crap like this does not improve our day. Turned on the awful, too softee and dragging sound of WVKS instead (101.5 The River is more upbeat usually). If VKS' music is too pansy/flacid.... I'll go to Q104 online.

Cumulus doesn't know how to fix failing stations in non-PPM markets, and they've had mixed results in doing so in PPM markets.

Since taking over WZPL in Indy, the ratings have sunk. Also, Mix 107.9 is only starting to recover after suffering the Cumulus plunge (and is still performing below pre-Cumulus acquisition levels). On a combined basis, 99.5 & 107.9 in Indy are pulling about three fewer shares than pre-Cumulus acquisition.

In the last 90 days, programming changes made by Cumulus at WLAV in Grand Rapids have caused ratings to sink to all-time record low levels! That station has been around nearly fifty years as a rock station. The ratings have NEVER been worse (excluding unweighted Arbitrends)!

They also turned a 4.1 share country station in Grand Rapids (fall 2018) into a 1.4 share country station (fall 2019).

I think that most PD's never learn radio psychology and conditioning. You have seen me discuss "forward momentum" before. That's 1 part of the radio psychology. They clearly do not teach this anymore. Personal experience... The VP's of the formats (formerly consultants) dictate everything. Then require reports as to why a sweeper overlaps. No joke! Same for required song adds, music switched on the music log, etc. You must declare why a song was not added to the rotation in OpX and why you removed something from the Queue window in writing. Every step of any Cumulus station is monitored from afar. Yes, they even read this page. This is allot worse than ABC radio's "radar week" for spots.

One note- Gary Shores only knew alittle about forward momentum. He never demonstrated or that I know of, talked about station energy/excitement. Everyone in Arlington hailed him for what he knew. However, he refused to be exposed to the rest of radio psychology. Jerry, the new K100 PD has no concept of radio psychology. From the sound of K100 currently, he has no clue. Flow, energy and forward momentum. Those are radio psychology. Service is another. Emotional connection, another still. How many of those are currently on K100? Now see why they are no longer #1. Other stations around the country still get 15 shares, even in major markets. Same size market... Ft Wayne, WMEE is a prime example. K100 now is lucky to get 9 shares. Shortcuts, prefab, no song info, cheesey imaging/branding and "Ottomation" are all ratings sinkers. Don't get me started on the non-identifying canned/syndicated/older than sin calls and artist drops.

With all that said, the flunky PD's (VP's of formats), who did not make it, think they know it all. I think that has allot to do with many things.

Q105 will gain .2 in the next book and Cumulus will think that THEY FIXED IT! No, no really. Radio will never be like it was in the 60's and 70's when the jocks sat with the station manager, PD, MD and made a plan. They (management) actually accepted SOME input from the jocks and they would make deals, like the WTOD or WOHO jocks would tell the manager that they would all want a paid week vacation if they could beat WSPD for one book- and by God they DID. And management would make good on it. Maybe it didn't last more than two books, but it sure gave ENERGY to local stations when it was on a LOCAL LEVEL and all the decisions were made inside the building. In the community, jocks own goofy ass promotions that usually went to hell, but got them noticed in the paper, (and did lead to a jock or two "switching stations" aka fired) as the paper was the only other media in town (no internet, just landline phones) and TV was still in growth mode- only radio was a 24/7 medium as CH11 and CH13 went on the air with PSAs and a religious song or sermon at 6:30 am while radio was already rolling with a 45 minute head start. School closings were always an AM radio staple and TV never, if ever had the closings except for the 1974 snow storm and Blizzards of 77 and 78 and natural gas shortage closings in those winters too. Radio was king of all media, and might never be again, that is, short of several spaced EMP's or an Earth-wide "Carrington event" destroying all the power grids and networks for a year or two. Meanwhile, Q1055 clings to WCWA-like 1.8 ratings. At-work/EZ/oldies, or Norm Wamer's "the Ticket" are 105.5's only likely ratings movers.

One thing we need to keep in mind...

To Cumulus, ratings mean nothing. Cash does. Format will not change. Cumulus refuses still today that higher ratings say "ching ching!"

Yes, old radio will never come back. There is no such thing as local service. No local decisions. Cookie cutter radio is here to stay. It's so bad, not even the PD's listen to their own crappy stations. At least WQQO HD1, I can see that.

Also still shocked that Chris (Pea Pod) is VT 7-12a. He was the "F-Bomb King" and suspended for 4 songs put in and added to Star's Queue window in OpX. Most reading this, logged in or not, will remember that Sunday. Great decisions are Cumulus' most shining star. Liabilities like this could take the big C down.

iHeart just had a slaughterhouse 5 day; will Cumulus be next? Local on-air talent going, going, gone. If it ain't local, nobody will listen. I have a radio diary this week (from last Thursday) and there isn't a whole lot of local stations being listed, a whole lot more from elsewhere, like WSM Nashville, that still cares what they air most of the time.

Truth be told... now we radio folks care about you. Fill out the comment section. We will listen, somewhat.... ehhhh, maybe slightly, if it does not go against our ego or agenda.
