Around 1pm today, WBNZ played:
David Lee Roth "Goin' Crazy"
A cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" (unsure who it was, but it wasn't the original)
Van Halen "Me Wise Magic" (one of the two songs Van Halen recorded during a brief 1996 reunion with David Lee Roth)

This stunt on 92.3 reminds me of 103.1 KCDX in the Phoenix area. KCDX has played a commercial-free classic rock format since the mid 2000s: http://www.kcdx.com/

Certainly talk of selling has been subject matter for several years; no argument there. However, there are legitimate dealings on those signals now, with a broker as a middle man. Whether the stars align, and deals are all filed simultaneously, or the bulk are sold and others LMA'd to exit the day-to-day business, remains to be seen. I would imagine something will begin to stir in a matter of weeks, or perhaps a few more months. But I'm pretty confident we won't be discussing this cluster a year from now. Meanwhile, we may be discussing the status (or lack thereof) of WLDR for years to come. :barf

Why would someone, who is making these deals, let you know so you could leak it on the buzzboard?

NorthRadioTruth... No leaks here; the stations are actively being shopped. Perhaps you should speak to anyone you might know in the business to confirm this; rather than assume a conspiracy theory or leak (might help to stay off the news channels). Of course, if you actually knew who to call, you could pick up the phone and speak to a broker... probably any broker, as they all know what's available.

I’m not up there, but the Oh Well cover could be from the Rockets. They were from Detroit.

Fleetwood Mac had a rocky start. They really didn't take off until their sound mellowed in the mid 1970s.

I pulled up the Rockets' version of "Oh Well" on YouTube and it sounds like the version I was hearing on WBNZ on Friday

They had some success with Peter Green, but once he left (and Jeremy Spencer too) the band really fell apart. They had their moments (Hypnotized) but didn’t become superstars until Buckingham and Nicks.

I can’t remember the last time I heard a pre mid 70s song of theirs on the radio.

Depending on where you are in the area, the 101.5 stations (Gaylord and Manistee) open the playlist up after 8 pm. I've heard the eight minute rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well", along with "Hypnotized" (Bob Welch on vocals). You'll also catch some longer versions of Pink Floyd, an occasional Procol Harum, Sweet and others mixed among the station's normal playlist.

I've heard "Oh Well", "Hypnotized", and "The Derelict" (one of only two Fleetwood Mac songs to feature ex-Savoy Brown singer Dave Walker on vocals) on SiriusXM in the recent past. When I saw the current lineup of the Mac in Grand Rapids last year, they played "Oh Well", "Tell Me All The Things You Do", "Hypnotized", and "Black Magic Woman", all of which came out prior to 1975.

Heard an ID on 92.3 just in the last few minutes:
"92.3 WBNZ Benzie-Frankfort-Manistee" "Your Hard Rock Authority"

It certainly sounds like some Gen Xer's iPod patched into the board. The playlist isn't all that deep, either--I'm hearing the same tracks now every day. Not one commercial has been aired.

It's much the same thing on NorthFM. I've heard Naughty by Nature's O.P.P. three times now during maybe four hours' worth of monitoring over a two-day stretch.

I listened to a bit of both BNZ and North yesterday, and they are both incredibly bad entities. And, yes, North's programming seems to favor Naughty by Nature. I heard Amy Grant's "Baby Baby" go into "Hip Hop Hooray"... of course, after five seconds of dead air. It's like someone blew the cobwebs off a CHR station from 1992.

Isn't North FM supposed to be an Adult Contemporary station? Wow - that's hilarious. The station is even shittier than I first thought!
