The Zone is back
Re: The Zone is back
Holy Crap Batman! I did not see that comming. If anything, I figured ESPN would move there, when 106.5fm finally sells. I can't tell if its local or satellite fed.
Re: The Zone is back
There still running Talk Radio 100.7fm promos though. Well.. No one was listening Canned Talk radio, I like Dave Ramsey but the rest is pretty forgettable. Not sad to see Mark Levin Gone.
I think they should have used a different name, 100.7 The Edge or Buzz 100.7.

Re: The Zone is back
I can't believe they are using the same name and logo and are expecting a different result. So far I've only heard Collective Soul and POD. Interesting to see what the music mix will be like.
Re: The Zone is back
Based off the DJ, seems like it's Satellite feed
Re: The Zone is back
I was joking the Zone was coming back a while back. How many times is this now, half a dozen?
Re: The Zone is back
I think it's 6.
1.) 106.5 the Zone
2.)94.5 HD 3.
3.) Then 100.9
4.)Then 100.7 Then was taken off for The Vibe.
5.) Then came back. Then taken off for Talk Radio
6.)and now 2019's resurrection

Re: The Zone is back
Oh boy!! We needed the return of the station that used to shout "Support The New Music Revolution!" before playing Man In The Box in 2012!!
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson, Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson!! You got the music in you!!!

Re: The Zone is back
This is funny considering how Cumulus has been killing off some of its more notable alternative stations across the country in recent weeks.
104.5 KFOG (San Francisco) - gone (now all sports).
105.1 KCJK (Kansas City) - now Active Rock with a little alternative mixed in. Almost a clone of 96.5 Cincinnati.
101.9 KHTB (Salt Lake City) - gone (now simulcasting sister station Power 94.9).

Re: The Zone is back
Looks like this has been in the works since at least October 22.
https://www.facebook.com/1007TheZone
Those who found the prior iteration of The Zone's playlist too soft/feminine might find the new iteration of the station to be much more acceptable.
Artists heard so far:
- Audioslave
- Fall Out Boy (OK, they suck)
- Linkin Park
- Highly Suspect
- Skillet (not a fan but considered an artist suitable for either active or alt rock radio)
- Marilyn Manson
- Dirty Honey
- Volbeat
This is definitely an active rock-leaning alternative station in the vein of the retooled 105.1 in Kansas City.
With 89X's signal being shit in much of greater Toledo ever since 88.9 WTPG boosted power and with WIOT gaining on WXKR in the ratings in recent periods, this seems like a good move to me.

Re: The Zone is back
The contract on some of those talk shows must of been up at last, They were airing Football this afternoon and I see a couple of the brokered shows are still in tact.
It sounds like they are using a different satellite format then before. The Audio sounds much better as does the music selection, for the most part. The Cheese ball station liners need to go, it makes the station sound low budget. Keep it simple like " New Rock 100.7 The Zone" " The best new rock around 100.7 the zone" , the one with the lame joke about the upstairs neighbors jumping around is just stupid.
Would be nice if they would simulcast this on 106.5, at least until the station is sold.

Re: The Zone is back
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the V/O artists Cumulus uses on many of its rock and classic rock stations. Fake computer synthesized voices doing nothing more than dry reads with no sounds effects, no music beds, etc.
Station imaging was so much more creative 20 years ago than today.
The V/O artist The Zone is using is the same one previously used by the ill-fated KFOG in San Francisco and iFart's now defunct ratings abortion - Fault 106.7 - in Detroit.
Most of the nationally syndicated shows aired by Talk Radio 100.7 were Westwood One offerings, I believe. Cumulus owns Westwood One. I suspect Cumulus had the ability to cancel most of those shows at-will. For some of the shows, perhaps the station will still need to clear commercial inventory. Tough to say.
As I'm typing this - the station is airing a Polka music show. Brokered time - obviously. Funny stuff!!!

Re: The Zone is back
Oh yeah... it is the same as Alt 106.7s, very bland sounding. Polka party made the cut, that's been on Toledo radio for over 50 years, originating from the former 1560 WTOD .
Re: The Zone is back
The brokered stuff would be a better fit for 106.5
