Low power TVs in Tri-Cities

Post by paul8539 » Tue Oct 15, 2019 8:12 pm

Just within the last 3 weeks or so, apparently two low power TV stations have started up in the Tri City area. One seems to be WLLD-LD, wihich gives a PSIP of 25, which intermingles with WEYI. It has several sub-channels, but 3 of them appear to be just paid half-hour advertisements. One seems to be the TV feed of a radio show. They are sometimes very flickery, like the CD they are playing off of does not sync with the channel feed. The other one gives a PSIP of 38; also has some ad channels, with a couple of oldies channels.

Anybody know where the transmitters are located?

I believe Midland, at least that's the name of the licensee. Same with WFKB-LD

I like WFKB. WLLD, not so much

There is actually 3, one on 24 all religious, 25 one to me totally useless one channel is spanish, other 3 are very useless 1/2 hour commercials & 38 Only one that is useful 38.1 grit - dont watch, just incessant westerns, 38.2 court tv mysteries - Eh, the last two are only ones really useful 38.3 LAFF, 38.4 Get TV

WFKB is on RF 19 with PSIP 38. WLLD (still listed as W25ET-D on the FCC website) is on RF 25, but it will have to pick up a different PSIP to eliminate confusion with WEYI (which is on RF 18). Both of these broadcast from the Saginaw area.

The religious on 24 is the 3ABN digital translator near Midland, which was on channel 46 analog before WBSF came on.

Curiosity though, at least I've seen it on 38.3, what is "TEST-DT 99" after every show?

This "TEST-DT 99" screen also pops up from time to time on WDWO 18.1 here in the Detroit DMA.

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

Is that something when a low-power first signs on?

Just in case Paul8539 wishes to have more exacting locations:

The two from the south side of Saginaw are on the same tower that this link from FCCInfo.com hopefully will post through successfully for me:

https://www.fccinfo.com/MapIt5.php?lat_ ... ton=Map+It

And the 3ABN one is and will remain on the east side of Midland, with their granted displacement request construction permit to move from RF 24 to RF 34 citing the same tower and height:

https://www.fccinfo.com/MapIt5.php?lat_ ... ton=Map+It

I've seen others note that Low Powers don't have to actually cover the city they cite. W35DQ-D on RF35 also is on file as being Midland, but went live with their signal in June from a tower along I-75 by Clio, which has no realistic chance of reaching Midland under typical conditions:

https://www.fccinfo.com/MapIt5.php?lat_ ... ton=Map+It

In Indiana, there's a Low Power that still cites Terre Haute (its original market) but has been on the air in Indianapolis apparently for years, also with no realistic chance of signal reaching the city named.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

Noticed today that lame wffc station who still, all they have on are paid commercials and azteca has been moved to their broadcast frequency channel 17. So no more duplication's of 25! :)

As of last week at least, WLLC 17.1 is the Justice Network, 17.3 is Quest (old History Channel re-runs). The last couple of days, 17.3 has been blank a lot, but not all, of the time. It also PSIPs to 17 now, rather than 25. 38.5 and 38.6 seem to be QVC and Home Shopping Network.

For both 17 and 38, they do not provide any information as to what is being shown. Is there any place where you can see what is on Justice, Quest, GET TV LAFF, GRIT, and the other channels that these stations re-broadcast?

I have also seen the "TEST-DT 99" Community DT at about 5 seconds before the hour. This seems to be their station ID. It knocks off the ending credits of the show to appear, and then goes back to the show afterwards.

Apparently, the 'Community, ST' is supposed to be replaced with the city and state of the station; but for some reason, they did not do that.
The 'Test DT' is supposed to be the calls of the station, but again they did not do that.

38.5, 38.6 not on, my thoughts for something to watch actually is left are decades, thistv or movies.

Far as tv listings I use this and you can customize it. I.e. I deleted 5.4, 12.4, 14.2, 17.1, 17.4, 25.4, 38.1, 38.2, 49.1, 49.2, 66.4
It does think we cn pickup stations from Ogemaw or so down to Detroit, having an account you remove and add.

FYI 5.5 is on today, Court tv

They didn't even have the right call letters during an EAS test several months back. Was as if the were west of the Mississippi....
