Warren Pierce

Post by Victor Victrola » Fri Oct 18, 2019 6:32 pm

I haven't listened to Warren Pierce on his WJR morning show in years. I just had the news on and Joe Gagnon (the Appliance Doctor who was on WJR for many years) popped on during a commercial break and said something to the effect "I'm back Saturdays from 5-7" so I looked on WJR's website for the program schedule and Pierce is not on Sundays either. Did his show get kicked off the air after all these years?

Doesn't Warren do weekend mornings? I'm guessing the Appliance Doctor is on from 5 to 7 pm.

I like Warren's presentation but not his content. Too much fluff.

I remember him from his early days at Farmington High back in the 60's, I surprised he's not retired by now.

Not to pile on this dude, cuz he’s been off my radar for YEARS, but I used to cross paths with him in a previous life and he had a strangely off-putting personality. Hard to explain, but weird.

Warren Pierce is boring and talks about absolutely nothing. It takes him five minutes to ask a guest a question because they are so wordy. He’s a great cure for insomnia.

Joe Gagnon has been buying time Sunday mornings on WTKA for the last few years.

I remember that car deal happening and had no idea it was that long ago. So Warren Pierce is 75 years old! I guess Joe Gagnon sort of takes Glenn Haege's spot. I used to listen to GH all the time. I stopped listening to Warren's morning show as it was the same old guests for the same events just like clockwork every holiday, etc.

It's only by the occasional accidental tune-by that I've ever caught his show. When I have, it's been pretty much like stumbling across Fox2's "The Nine," where the bewildered cluelessness makes my brain hurt.

I used to enjoy Dick Purtan's spoofs of Warren Pierce.

Those spoofs were quite accurate! Word is, Warren hated them, which makes it even funnier.

Warren's popularity was in the 1970's, as WJR's evening host. His show was a mixture of music and conversation. He was still Warren, but for that time slot, 40 odd years ago, the show served it's purpose quite well.

I got in on one those evening conversations, discussing the Today Show's 25th anniversary with Warren in early 1977.

If my cassette of it hasn't disintegrated by now, I still have it recorded somewhere. It wasn't anything in depth, but I enjoyed having Warren taking my call.
