Ric Ocasek (The Cars) dies at 75
I was watching "How It Really Happened" with host Hill Harper (on CNN Headline News) about the late Timothy McVeigh & the Oklahoma City bombing in April of 1995 when I found out this story. Singer Ric Ocasek, former lead singer of The Cars has died at 75 years old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ric_Ocasek

I just listened to All Mixed Up, probably my favorite cars song.
ABC's overnight news didn't mention it. NBC 4AM Today Show Did.

Ric's "Troublizing" (from 1997 on Columbia) remains his best effort. That album did NOT charted in Billboard & no radio airplay!! Produced by Billy Corgan, lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins!! The CD's "Quick Change World" (1993) & his final solo project "Nexterday" (2005) not too bad either!!

The Cars' 1st three albums, all bombastically produced by RTB, were the best!
RO's solo after the wheels fell off (Fireball Zone, with Nile Rodgers at the desk) had a single named, "Rockaway", but the tune I really enjoyed from that one was this one:
I can still remember seeing Ocasek & his mates strolling Bridge in Charlevoix the morning after a show @ the Castle. They didn't gather much attention.
A true original. RIP, Mr. O, and thank you, thank you, thank you!

Stephen Colbert had a nice mention of Ocasek on his show last night. When he was doing the "Colbert Report" Ocasek did some "guerilla field work" (in Colbert's words) for the program. Colbert seemed pretty saddened by the news of his passing.

This year was a light year for major musical deaths until the one-two punch of Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek. I wonder who will be next?
Re: Ric Ocasek (The Cars) dies at 75
I mentioned this on another post but Daniel Johnston also died last week, (obviously he was less well known.)
Re: Ric Ocasek (The Cars) dies at 75
The song "Rockaway" (from 1990 "Fireball Zone") was Ric's last charted song NOT in the Billboard Hot 100 but on Billboard's Mainstream Rock & Modern Rock Charts.
Re: Ric Ocasek (The Cars) dies at 75
Ric's first solo song & music video "Something To Grab For" (from 1982 "Beatitude"). Went to # 47 (Hot 100) & # 5 (Billboard's Mainstream Rock) on February of 1983. Model Marianne Gravette appears in the music video. Marianne was Playboy's Playmate Of The Year in 1983!! Marianne also appeared in the album cover of Ratt "Invasion Of Your Privacy" & the song "Lay It Down" in the Summer of 1985. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml9ZB98EfzY
