Don't worry. Tucker Carlson says white nationalism is a non-issue! LOL

FWIW, Marysville is a shithole.

Just an uneventful small city with little of note. Not THAT bad.
Go one city away if you want to see a shithole.
Port Huron is full of drug-addled zombies walking aimlessly, high as a kite.
Depressing place, like Battle Creek and Saginaw.
Marysville is just a typical midwest town.

Marysville is mediocre in pretty much every way. No downtown. Gratiot has seen better days. It’s not a terrible place, but not great either. I considered buying investment property there at one point. Backed out due to a sudden personal financial issue at that time.

Port Huron is a mix of beauty (near the Blue Water Bridge), a somewhat full downtown (at least in summer), some decent homes, and some terrible neighborhoods. They are also one of a handful of cities with an income tax.

You want to see abandoned, try Marine City. Feels like a ghost town in some spots.

The last time I drove through Marysville on Gratiot Rd (not sure if it has a different name up that way), the commercial district looked moribund. TONS of old, empty buildings. The only thing missing was tumbleweed.

Port Huron does have a nice riverfront. The downtown area is nothing special - it looks tired - but isn't bad. The neighborhoods I drove near did appear to be relatively low income areas. I saw many small bungalows in not so great of shape.
Depressing place, like Battle Creek and Saginaw.
100% agree with you on Battle Creek! I'm not familiar enough with Saginaw to personally judge that town.

Want to see a really depressing town? Take U.S. 23 south-southeast of Toledo and drive through Fostoria sometime.

Screw that, go to Delray. Many of the streets (like Lyle and Pulaski) are gone in favor of a water treatment plant. When you go down Jefferson and turn left on Cottrell, then congratulations, you are seeing the least run-down looking area of that sad neighborhood.

I had some gypsy relatives in Delray, most of them passed away decades before I was born, but I've heard things about them, like how they were walking stereotypes who always stole other people's things, and then cast evil spells on them. Obviously, their little magic spells were BS, but they actually thought they were legit.

It’s still called Gratiot. The commercial district has certainly seen better days. There are some nicer prosperities along the river (take the cutoff from Busha Hwy). Many of the homes inland are fairly average.

Port Huron’s homes seem to get worse the further away from the river you go, along with the crime. They are actually taking out traffic lights because traffic is lower than it was due to abandonment.

Completely agree about Fostoria. The only reason people visit there are train watchers (I think three lines meet in one spot) and they have a candlepin bowling alley.

Honestly, one of the worst areas ive seen in PH is right by the river. Its also near the bridge, though. When things like bridges or interstates come through, they tear up neighborhoods and increase noise, so the property values remain lower.
Which areas are actually abandoned enough for traffic lights to be removed? I thought the absolute worst area was the 69 business route along the south side. Its run down, but i thought most of the properties were still occuppied.
I believe affordable housing is important for lower wage workers at places like grocery stores and cafes in most cities. Nobody wants to commute 25 minutes to work at CVS or Subway. Having affordable housing nearby can be helpful on that end. But I think places like PH utterly lack any opportunity beyond entry-level work and therefore people cant maintain properties to a proper degree. I also hear the PH has a bad drug problem, and I chalk that up to boredom and hopelessness in an economically bleak environment.
PHs nicer areas are north of the river and I suspect those neighborhoods have a higher concentration of retirees.

I grew up in Marysville. Like many of the towns in that area, it’s REALLY nice by the river and then they are all varying degrees of boring as you move inland. If you don’t have a boat, there’s nothing to do there but drink and get high. The south side of PH is downright scary. Like, robbed at gunpoint type scary.
As for this particular women, she probably gained support by voicing her views on race. There are a lot of good people in Marysville who disagree with her but there are still people there that will be more likely to vote for her now than before she opened her mouth on this subject.

Port Huron’s city income tax doesn’t help either.

Is the bad area you are talking about pretty much directly under the Blue Water Bridge, between Pine Grove and Gratiot? If you go directly on the river near the plazas, that is a nice walk.

I know at least one light on Military was taken out- yes, the main drag. A couple of lights near, but not on the I-69 business route have been converted to 4 way stop flashing red. They put stop signs up, so it isn’t just a malfunction. I think they also took out a lane on the business route (Oak St?) to put on street parking. I could have sworn it was 3 each way at one point.

Fort Gratiot seems to have a better business district, but their mall is dying and there are some empty storefronts.

Ive mostly viewed PH as impoverished and struggling, but not scary. But about 11 years ago, i started hearing rumors about violent gang activity trickling up from Detroit and now PH ranks as one of the states most dangerous cities. It would seem that PH has bucked national trends and its crime rate has gotten WORSE over the past decade, whereas most other cities have seen a drop.

It’s not as scary as the east side of Detroit but I still wouldn’t go for a walk in those neighborhoods unless you’re escorted by someone who lives there.
I’ve seen some pretty violent events happen in South Park.

I honestly never knew crime rates were so high in Pt. Huron.

The lazy media outlets in Detroit don't seem to pay much attention to the Bluewater area even though it is part of Nielsen DMA.

St. Clair County as a whole is mostly ignored, this event being the exception. Since the county and surrounding ones will never become their own market (in the analog days Pt. Huron only had one station allotted to it), that won’t change. Even the local radio station WPHM only has a morning show and prerecorded news updates during the day. Zilch on the weekend.

Sarnia is the same case, with CHOK having some local updates during the week, in typical cheap Blackburn fashion. TV wise, absolutely nothing, ever since CKCO pulled their separate Sarnia newscasts years ago. I don’t know if they even have a news bureau there anymore,

She has withdrawn from the race, though it's too late to remove her name from the ballot.
