Ken Evans Out at 105.3

Post by Localnewsisdead » Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:26 am

Ken Evans announced, on his Facebook page, that he is no longer employed at 105.3. Here is his post:

Since my phone is blowing up here's a quick update. My contract at Cumulus Media was set to expire in just over a month, they have notified me that they've decided to go a different route and it will not be extended. As many of you in media know, to minimize their risk, they have pulled me off the air.

Today was my last show with Rachael Gray. I will truly miss seeing her every morning. I've been very lucky with my show partners and she continued that tradition. I also know that we'll continue to be friends and I'll always root for her from afar.

My thanks to Lori Bennett & Jeff Cartwright for the opportunity to reconnect with all of you. Also my thanks to Bruce Law for allowing me to help grow the digital presence of their brands during his tenure.

These things always suck, but as I told our engineer as I walked out the door, I've had better days, but I've also had worse days. I'll be talking to you all again, maybe sooner than later. 😉

So now it's time to milk this last week of the summer for all it's worth. No 4am alarm clocks means some late nights playing videogames with my son are in store. #Onward

I wonder if Cume-U-Less is going to pipe in The Bert Show?

If so, 105.3 is absolutely doomed, and Cumulus has given up attempting to compete with SNX.

Damn, that place is a mess, between the musical chairs on the dial positions and the inability to keep the transmitters on, I'm surprised Atlanta doesn't just blow the whole thing up (although it sounds like they might be close).

I still love LAV, but now I can't hear it half the time. I end up back on XM more often than not.

I wont be surprised if cumulus throws in the towel and flips it to WLAV or something.

WLAV's CP site and 105.3 have quite a bit of overlap (a little too much to make a simulcast worthwhile). I could see the following happen:
1. 105.3 continues as a low-rate CHR
2. Cumulus sells 97.5 and moves Nash Icon to 105.3
3. 105.3 and 107.3 simulcast as "Thunder 105-3/107-3"

I know this will never happen, but I would love to see 105.3 flip to a format very similar to the filler format Citadel ran for a few months before 105.3 was able to move from its original tower near Hart onto the WZZM tower.

It blows my mind that Cumulus screwed up the antenna for LAV so badly that you can barely pick it up in Lansing (tried to do so while traveling to GR Sunday night). Have to wait until you get into Ionia County before it comes in somewhat OK...

They didn't earn a dime of revenue from Lansing. Granted, I'm sure they had listeners near St. Johns and Grand Ledge.

What matters is a great signal in the urbanized portions of Kent and Ottawa plus the lakeshore, and they now have that.

Big Rapids is another place where the signal from the GVSU site is much weaker than the original Egypt Valley site. I'm told the signal craps out around or just past the Stanwood exit.

Thank you.

LAV is a damn good station. I'm pleased that reliable service has been restored to the vast majority of the zip codes that matter.
