With yesterday's (7/20) big Es opening throughout the Midwest and beyond reaching MUFs of 170 and lasting for more than three hours, I decided I would document the conditions by recording a spin through the FM band from 87.75 up to 107.9.
Listen to the 21-minute Es scan here
Because of the fact I've been putting all my effort into completing my coastal tropo projects the past two years, I'm not logging Es (anyone who does knows how much time it can take up during an especially active season, which this really hasn't been thankfully), so I figured I'd at least document the conditions generally by recording the insanity.
Almost all locals were out (my 10-mile full powers were barely hanging on for a lot of it and the stronger ones like WSNX, WBCT, etc. were entirely gone most of the time too) and only a handful of Es stations were stable enough to last more than a few seconds at a time before being taken out by others. Nonetheless, there are IDs in this bandscan that you can pick out as I stumbled upon them at the right time.
Conditions were from GA AL MS LA TX NM OK AR MO KS > MI (and later CO SD ND) with these recordings in the 2pm hour mainly TX OK and KS at the time. Listening location is in Fremont, where it was heavily storming out.
The bandscan recording is 21 minutes, one frequency at a time from the bottom up.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through May 12 at 7:00p ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Re: E-Skip Audio Bandscan (7/20)
Great. I wish I would have known about that. What radio were you using? At what time of the day did it begin and end?
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

Bummer I missed it! I was busy taking care of my parents' dogs while my parents were cleaning up water from the back room of my mom's store

Personally, I used my Grundig G8 portable just in my bedroom. The opening was about 2pm-6pm, give or take. Most of the opening, the MUF was well into and beyond the weather radio band, but pulled back toward 105 and 106 toward the end before the cloud began to dissipate.
