103.7 WCKY

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

Adrian and Tiffin, both holes. Paradise compared to Fotrioit.

I think I-H tried to unload WCKY once, I think the company was goodlife radio? Religious? The deal fell through at the 11th hour I'm told. I'm not sure why they hold onto this station, right the fact that they try to include it with: WIOT,WRVF,WSPD,and WVKS is just dumb.

Nash in Monroe? No idea what's going on over there.
GoodRadio.TV, fronted by Dean Goodman (a former Paxson exec IIRC). After that failed, Goodman later tried to purchase the NextMedia group under the Digity name, but it became a money pit and promptly unloaded it to Alpha.

When Clear Channel divested Sandusky and Mount Vernon, they threw in WTTF and WPFX 107.7 (which BAS promptly unloaded), but not WCKY. It at least would have been a good compliment with WFRO and WOHF.

BAS still owns WTTF last I heard, unless that changed recently. BAS owns WFRO WLEC, and 92.1 WOHF(I think).

I took a listen to WCKY today, when they did traffic, they mentioned a couple of trouble spots in Lima but said nothing about Toledo.

It was supposed to be donated to Heidelberg University, but that never went through. Current owner (since 2014) is Anthony Paradiso.

BAS still owns it and they list it among their stations; Paradiso merely leases it. WTTF still has studio space at the Heidelberg campus, a remnant of the previous LMA (Paradiso was also a part of said prior LMA).

Awesome!! NW Ohio has enough Current based country music stations. WBZI/WEDI/WKFI is one of reasons why I like the Dayton market, just don’t have unique stations like these in Detroit, Toledo and Columbus.

WCKY is not there. It's still iHeart.
WTTF-AM is also not on the list

The reason is consolidation. Consolidation made music cookie cutter, imaging and jingles cookie cutter, logos cookie cutter, music logs cookie cutter, jock rules (little to no personality, don't mention artists, no time or temp) cookie cutter, contesting cookie cutter, even voicetracking/cyberjocking cookie cutter. Consolidation was supposed to encourage minority ownership. It had the opposite effect. It was much better and had more creativity when companies could only own 12 stations total. What's good for San Antonio or Atlanta, is not good for the whole country.

Clarification- Some still refer 103.7 as "WTTF." Not WTTF oldies. It's just like 105.5 being called "3WM," even though it had not been called that for 2 decades. UT in Toledo, constantly heard as "TU."

98.3 is taking the Nash Icon feed 24/7, no? Whatever music issues they had would be across-the-board. (And "flagship" WSM-FM outranks WKDF and WSIX in Nashville, so it's apparently working in Music City. Go figure.)

WCKY is still a Tiffin/Findlay station because the transmitter was never moved in closer to Toledo. It really should have been sold to BAS in 2008, not that they'd be any better an owner.
I've always thought 103.7 did a good job of making a lemon into lemonade. They've created an unofficial Tiffin-Findlay market in an area with a Country audience.

Suppose you're the Rural King store in Tiffin. Are you going to pay less to reach your market, or are you going to pay a fortune to advertise on K100 and reach listeners in Napoleon and Wyandotte who aren't going to make the 90-minute drive to Tiffin?

That's pretty much what I was saying. WTTF is listed on the BAS website as "1600 WTTF AM/FM", the FM being a translator at 93.5.

BAS has, for all intents and purposes, operated WTTF since buying it in 2008, the failed LMA with Doug Stephen and failed attempt to donate it to Heidelberg notwithstanding.

I'm sure BAS would probably buy 103.7 if I-H sold it on cheap.

Myron, its 93.3, W227BJ. They cannot be on 93.5, due to WRQN-FM's tower at Rt 25 and 582, in Haskins. They (WRQN) are 7,000 watts nondirectional. That goes into Tiffin, marginally.

Like WTOL being still called "Toledo 11", WIOT being "FM 104", etc.
