Well, technically, if you go with the thought of "classic rock" being songs more than 20 years old, then it qualifies. That song was released in '95, making it 24 years old. (hard to believe, I know)
When CSX came on the air in 1987, it was playing songs barely 20 years old and although I suppose that they could remain stuck in the 70s and 80s forever, that playlist is long past stale. Me personally, I don't care for that particular Smashing Pumpkins song at all, but it beats having to hear Another Brick in the Wall yet again.

Re: WCSX
I'm just....shocked. It was unheard of to even consider playing GNR in 2012; now they're into the mid 90s. That station took so long to update I guess it's a surprise when they do.mkhopper wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 12:54 pmWell, technically, if you go with the thought of "classic rock" being songs more than 20 years old, then it qualifies. EDIT: I heard Twisted Sister, INXS and Smashing Pumpkins all in a row this morning. From a station that had been playing the same shit over and over and over for years, yes, this is quite shocking.

Re: WCSX
I'm excited for their ratings to finally fall now.
They have been winning because they only play old music.
That's about to change

Playing Smashing Pumpkins is a big mistake. People tune into WCSX to avoid that flavor of rock music!!!
There are some songs/artists from the 90's that would be a better fit, stylistically speaking.
"All Summer Long" by Kid Rock is also getting airplay. That is a much more recent song, *but* stylistically it is a much better fit.

Anyone know who is consulting WCSX? Is it still Buzz? Because I just don't see him okaying a Smashing Pumpkins song.

Stylistically ? Rip-Off Robert Ritchie's (Kid Rock to his groupies ) "style" is ripping off genres and songs, and dumbing them down to sell to his Billy Bob base !!!!

Re: WCSX
WCSX is making some fucking awful music choices.
"My Sharona" by the Knack? That's considered Classic Rock?!?! You've gotta be fucking kidding me.
Oh, how's this for a back-to-back song choice?
7:10 PM Come Sail Away — Styx
07:00 PM Time For Me to Fly — REO Speedwagon
BARF x 10000000!!!!
It's almost as if WCSX wants to make the classic rock ratings battle more competitive by tanking! These horrible song choices remind me of how 106.7 The Drive sounded fifteen years ago.

Re: WCSX
Uh, MW...
WCSX has been playing My Sharona for years now. Granted, it's always been a tertiary song, but yeah...I remember playing that frequently during daytime weekday board-ops.
Does it need to go away? That's up for discussion.

They have been playing all 3 of those songs for many years now.
Those songs are the current definition of Classic Rock

Re: WCSX
My Sharona is an awful song. It’s played on WCSX because of where the band is from.
The station has always been more of a softer classic rock station compared to many markets, though I have been hearing more 80s hair metal over the past couple years than ever before.

Come Sail Away is one of my most hated songs. Easily makes my top 5 most hated.

Re: WCSX
I used to do Come Sail Away as a cover in the "bar band" I was in back in the late 70's. It was more fun to play than to listen too. Be that as it may, Dennis was a musical genious.
Granted, I don't listen to WCSX as much as I used to because I can only take so much of Dahlmer (sp), but here are a couple of songs I haven't heard in a long while that I would like to.
157 Riverside Avenue.
Musta Got Lost/Whammer Jammer
Golden Country
Funk 49
Suite Judy Blue Eyes
But, they may not care because I'm not in the 25 to 54.

Cain killed Abel with a rock. God blamed Cain, NOT the rock.
