I could be wrong, but wasn't there some FCC rule that said stations couldn't arbitrarily change their virtual channel number, even if to reflect their RF channel? In other words, it had to say 62, and additionally, don't all CBS O&O's use the "CBS #" format branding?
If anyone is even aware Ion exists, no one even cares Ion TV is 31, because no one cares about Ion TV. lol. I wouldn't be looking at them for ideas on how to run a ratings powerhouse.

Right. WPXD has about 14 viewers. WADL also doesn’t use a channel number and has about 25 viewers. Channel number doesn’t mean much these days especially with cable.
Re: Network tv switch, nearly 25 years later: who was the winner?
That’s correct. I once asked about this, and the station said it had to use the 62 channel as it’s apart of the network mandate.ZenithCKLW wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 2:08 pmI could be wrong, but wasn't there some FCC rule that said stations couldn't arbitrarily change their virtual channel number, even if to reflect their RF channel? Mort Meisner and Warren Pierce were pretty big losers in all that.
Re: Network tv switch, nearly 25 years later: who was the winner?
Yes, because Fox Corp. was a lot less forgiving of their shenanigans than New World who owned them when they were a CBS affiliate.Weren’t both let go by WJBK?
Re: Network tv switch, nearly 25 years later: who was the winner?
Warren Pierce was getting cars from dealerships for a week at a time claiming to be doing reports and reviews on them, which he was not. He had his wife drive the cars so that no one at the station noticed Warren had a new ride every week. Rumor has it, that he did this for years and Mort covered for him. He was finally busted when BMW wanted a copy of his reports and took it to corporate when Warren, and then Mort as News Director did not provide the tape. So Warren was fired for fraudulent Payola and Mort was let go soon there after, bringing in Neal Goldstein as the new News Director.
