Songs that wore out their welcome

Post by Bobbert » Sun Feb 24, 2019 9:41 am

I go to restaurants that play 93.9, 96.3, 100.3, (and now) 98.7 a lot. I'm not an old fogie who hates new music, but here's some songs that I got very tired of hearing soon after they starting playing on the radio:

Rolling in the Deep by Adele. At first, I loved this song, because of its soulful feeling. But I eventually got so tired of it that I wrote some parody lyrics for it: "There's a song that's pounding in my head, radio keeps playing it probably 'til I'm dead."

Shake it Off by Taylor Swift

Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I know this has some inspirational lyrics but it always sounds like just a rhyming exercise. After I heard it a few times, I thought, this song is just begging for a parody. Thank you YouTube for granting my wish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elzxMvRUAVE

The "meet me in the middle" song

Girls Like You by Maroon 5

I was tempted to add Roar by Katy Perry, but the video for the song provides very pleasant mental imagery when I hear the song.

Taylor Swift FREAKIN' BLOWS CHUNKS!!!!!!! This nearly-untalently,anorexic-looking broad has made HUNDREDS OF MILLION$ singing about breakups with her equally disgusting boyfriends-John "Slobber Boy" Mayer and Calvin Harris to name two-and getting equally untalented, unattractive bimbos to buy her cruddy records, dress and behave like her,to the point where the world is rapidly filling up with Taylor Swift clones .(Maybe they should marry Jim Rome's dumb-a** boy clones, though they'd lower the world's IQ by another thirty points. Good grief, girl, get over yourself, count your millions and leave the rest of us alone !!!!)

Journey:"Dont Stop Believin". I loved it 25 years ago. Now I hear it every day on 3 stations. Neil Schon is a great, underrated guitar player. Steve Perry has excellent pipes. But that song has turned me off of most of their work.
Bon Jovi: "Livin on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead Or Alive". How much more do we need of these tracks? And its NOT classic rock. And I actually used to own that cd.
Pink Floyd: "Another Brick In The Wall". One of their most boring songs is also one of the most played over the past 30 years.
"I Love Rock And Roll". I love rock and and roll too. I dont love that song after 15,000 spins.

Those songs would be a great start for a classic rock Muzak station.

Don't Stop Believin' probably stays popular around here because of the reference to "South Detroit."

I've heard Livin' on a Prayer so many times that when I'm alone in the car, I sing along with the ohh-OHH! part and burst out laughing.

I Love Rock and Roll has probably stayed popular because of its slumming, lowlife sound that makes even the most educated professional sometimes feel like throwing it all away and go on a party binge.

UB40: Red Red Wine... :barf There was a commercial that way playing that song in the beginning. I didn't realize it was a commercial until I heard it on a station that doesn't play that song.
