CanCon You Like, CanCon You Don't Like

Mainly the Obscure Tracks first.

CanCon I Liked:

I Will Still Love You-Stonebolt #29 Hot 100. #20 AC. Have LP, Single. Caught on, airplay at WOKY and WFDF, didn't spread over to WLS and CKLW. Otherwise, I would say it would have gone Top 5 AC and Top 10 Hot 100.

As Years Go By-Mashmakhan #31 Hot 100.

No Good To Cry-Poppy Family #84 Hot 100. Have Wildweeds Single. I like both.

CanCon I Didn't Like:

Virginia-Bill Amesbury

Love it, How about some Keith Hampshire, A Foot In Cold Water, Chilliwack, Bill Amesburry(He’s a She Now), Gino Vanelli, Martha and the Muffins, The Guess Who and More but that’s not all if you call before midnight we will with no charge throw in some Payolas, All you have to do is pay the extra shipping. Honest I love Canadian Music, I used to go to Sarnia and buy Canadian Artists CD’s That I could not purchase here, Love that stuff.
By the way I love the song “As Years Go By” from 1970, I dig the organ in that tune. By the way CK-722 FANTASTIC topic, I love it.

Liked "Big Time Operator" by Keith Hampshire. Thought it was too Novelty for Top 10.

Will second CK-722 on As Years Go By. Great tune.

Where Evil Grows by the Poppy Family. My siblings and I absolutely LOVED this tune, our soundtrack to the summer of '71.

Woodstock by Matthews' Southern Comfort, a nice soft song with a few interesting riffs.

Undun by the Guess Who, especially the wind bridge in it; Shakin' All Over, Flying on the ground is wrong, a few others I'll have to update later.

Can-Con I don't like:
"Fly Little White Dove, Fly", starts out more like talking than singing, and deteriorates into repeating the same bar what seems to be a hundred times.

Strange Can-Con: "Glamour Boy" by the guess who. Sometimes nonsensical lyrics, and the story is about someone who wants gender-reassignment surgery - the price of which inflates by $12,000 with every verse!
Perhaps an ode to Amesbury?

Funny thing about the Wildweeds. They were from Windsor, CT. The kids there were as likely to listen to CKLW Windsor, ON at Night as the local stations. They kind of adopted CKLW as a local station at Night. There were similarities between the Playlists of CKLW and Connecticut stations in general, the college towns were test markets. So Windsor, CT was kind of a CanCon market. And the Wildweeds were often mistakenly thought to be Canadian because of Windsor, CT.

Oldies 84,I heard Keith Hampshire's "Big Time Operator" on 580 this morning before the 10 am.-noon broadcast of the Beatles' last public gig,the lads' Jan.30,1969 Apple Record Rooftop Concert. ( Has a half-century really passed since this epic event ? ) "Big Time Operator" was a vastly underrated song from my young manhood, and Hampshire's voice resembles David Clayton-Thomas ' .

I wish The Big 580 would drop the Beatles thing and put something else in its place, Maybe some Old Dick Clark stuff or Dick Bartley Solid Gold Shows That were hot on Oldies Stations from back in the Late 70’s and Early 80’s.

Screw Dick Clark unless he 'fessed up to his role in the late 50's "Payola" scandal which ruined Alan Freed's career, among others' .

I disagree with ck-722, CanCon I liked included: Virginia-Bill Amesbury, Poor Little Fool-Frank Mills, among others....

I'm going to be doing a local (very local) LPFM 'record show' on air, and I'm planning to have a feature called the "CanCon Song of the week" since my Baby Boomers would recognize some of these from CKLW and CFCO.
