98.7 The Breeze: Announcers, Jingles, DJ'S, Morning Show, etc. Discussion
Re: 98.7 The Breeze: Announcers, Jingles, DJ'S, Morning Show, etc. Discussion
Many of these projected lineups are fantastic, with great talent.
But this is 2018!
We will probably see something like this:
Mornings: A team consisting of ‘Rat and Puff’ types in terms of experience.
Middays: Micki Gamez (voicetracked)
Afternoons: A Dave Kent soundalike, voicetracked
Evenings: Delilah (syndicated)
Weekends: No jocks
Limited production - no jingles

I amended mine to take out Delilah and add Chris and Kevin because I agree they should be recruited, as they are AC veterans in Detroit.

No jingles? 🖓
They need to use the "It's Nice" package!!
BKRPDM, you are confusing the station with an iFart station.
This is Entercom. They love live and local, and production is usually great.
iheart makes the entire radio business look bad. It's really embarrassing.

The point is now a dot, so 98-7... it’s an interwebs thingy...Steve79 wrote:I am the opposite on this. I HATED it with out it. The fact that they don't say "point" in the name is bad enough. I'd rather them say "98 point 7"stopnswop2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 1:51 pmThey redid their logo and added the "." In.
I liked it without it though. It looked fancier.

We need Polka Joe and Waltzing Wanda on Sunday Mornings 8AM - Noon on 98.7, that would be cool.

The so-called "December" ratings survey - which actually is for the period November 7 through December 5 - will include a few days of the old CHR/Pop format, the Christmas music stunt, plus about three weeks of the new Soft AC format.
I have low confidence in this prediction, but I'm gonna make this prediction anyway!
I'll predict that 98.7 checks in with a 3.5 share.
Because of Christmas music listening swings, it is far too soon to tell what impact the new station (and departure of AMP) will have on other stations in the market. WNIC will have its usual monster book for the period, which will pull numbers away from multiple other stations.

Good point MW, didn’t think about the Christmas thing, although they will have a few good books, maybe even great but I see them at some point leveling off, I did notice a bit more late 70’s on WNIC today, but that might not mean anything, if they do a 3.5 that’s better than the Amp days.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 1:49 pmThe so-called "December" ratings survey - which actually is for the period November 7 through December 5 - will include a few days of the old CHR/Pop format, the Christmas music stunt, plus about three weeks of the new Soft AC format.

2 weeks worth of the new format won't be enough to judge the ratings.
2 weeks also probably isn't enough for people to even realize there is a new format.
The Holiday 2018 and Jan 2019 ratings will be the ones to highlight it's new performance properly

Well, the numbers are out, and 98.7 earned a ho-hum 2.7 share (up from a 2.3).
WKQI inched up from a 4.4 to 4.6.
WDVD was virtually unchanged - 3.9 to 3.8.
WNIC kicked everyone's ass with a 12 share.
WCSX and WOMC were down 1 to 1.5 points from usual levels thanks to 'NIC.
I agree about the January 2019 book being much more meaningful. I completely disagree about the holiday book being meaningful, though. That book is only meaningful to stations that go all-Christmas. There is a lot of disruption to other stations in that time frame, which is almost always temporary in nature. That's precisely why the "holiday" survey period is segregated to begin with.

I predict 98.7 will be a 3 share radio station on average in 2019.
Detroit will not embrace this format like some other markets have.

Your absolutely right MW, this station is average and that’s it, just another station on the dial nothing big about it.

Re: 98.7 The Breeze: Announcers, Jingles, DJ'S, Morning Show, etc. Discussion
This is all speculation.
It's been 8 years since we have had even a slightly similar format so maybe it will go different this time.
Back in the late 90s, WNIC hit number 1 with their "Detroit's NICest Rock" and then Magic flipped in 2001 and then they went to number.
Out of the 2, WNIC always seemed to heavily focus on older music in the 2000s
Currently, the other Soft AC stations throughout the country are all in the top 3 or 4, some number 1.

It may not matter how well 98.7 does, they can sell commercial time in combo with 104.3 and that would be smart for Entercom to do, both stations would compliment each other.

Re: 98.7 The Breeze: Announcers, Jingles, DJ'S, Morning Show, etc. Discussion
The good news for all of you Soft AC fans out there is Entercom doesn't like to flip formats often.
They are generally very patient.
What happened in 2018 was unusual. To the best of my knowledge, NONE of their incumbent FM stations flipped formats, with the exception of 97.3 San Diego (whose pre-existing format was moved to a better signal...one previously in CBS's hands). All of the flips involved stations acquired from CBS.
In the first eleven months of 2017, the only Entercom flip I can recall in any market involved the break-up of the 107.3/97.7 simulcast in the Boston area. I'm unaware of any others.
