WWJ Newsradio 98.7
Re: Predictions for 2019
93.1 WDRQ flips from GNASH to GNASH icon giving Detroit classic country on FM.
106.7 becomes the new home of iHeart/Premiere syndicated talkers (Rush, Beck, Hannity) and simulcasts with WDFN while keeping Shep in the morning.
Rush leaves WJR (for WDFN/WDTW) and Cumulus goes local in the Noon to 3pm slot.

Re: Predictions for 2019
I usually fail at these too, but given the CHR format is in a bit of a downswing, that's why I predicted 105.1 will add some current and recurrent CHR product in order to take a piece of that pie. I don't see any other owner flipping to it. Cumulus? Nope. They may tweak DVD but will not go full out CHR. Entercom? Doubt it. They flipped their underperformer already from CHR. Iheart? Nope, they own Channel. Beasley will probably be the one to add that flavor, especially as the throwback format is fading elsewhere. There isn't enough CHR to go around right now.Art Van Damme wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 3:35 pm1. Metro Detroit DMA will continue its slide and drop rank to #16.
2. Entercom/Detroit will be the undisputed top dog in ratings and billing, followed by iHM, Beasley, Cumulus and RadioOne.
3.iHM will be required to divest even more stations to comply with bankruptcy proceedings. 1130 will be sold.
4.Birach gets 1160/1460 on the air, full power, by summer.
5.One station will become CHR to take on 95-5.
I was zero for 8 last year. Probably be zero for 5 with these guesses. Happy Thanksgiving

Spartan AM,I like that one for 106.7 but it’s to good to be true and it would make sense so therefore they would never do it.

Looking down the road in 2019, a CHR that positions itself as ‘playing all the hits’ can pull some audience from 95-5. For the meantime, yes, other semi-current stations will tweak. It all boils down to how Ch-urban 95-5 will lean. If it were me, I’d tighten up that playlist NOW. Of course, it depends upon what music will be coming down the pipeline.

Re: Predictions for 2019
Art do you think WPON will remain Oldies and if so what will happen to WCXI?

Re: Predictions for 2019
I can’t predict what Birach will do with those freqs at this point, Kev.
I thought the last time WPON was on the air, the oldies were played when time blocks weren’t sold. WCXI was classic country.
If I were to make a long shot guess, I would say he would broker as much time as he could.
Re: Predictions for 2019
WPON gets it's license cancelled or Sima hands it to the FCC.

Re: Predictions for 2019
I just looked at the DVD playlist. They are playing Nelly, Eminem, Mcklemore. Tweeking the playlist. It's been a while since I've paid attention, have they also been Today's best music and more?
Re: Predictions for 2019
Today’s best music and more has been awhile now around 3 months.
Re: Predictions for 2019
If Rush bolts JR, 1130 would make sense but seems like a waste to put all syndicated right wing talk on a full power FM.
