And the final piece of the puzzle.... Has any on-air personalities been let go? Has anyone checked their social media for a post?
Julia from the morning show just posted a pic on her social from an Art Van appearance for '987 AMP Radio'. That pretty much blows your 'stunt' up. If the jocks haven't been let go, this is either a short lived bit for attention or rebranding. I'm going with the former.

I agree with the rebrand. Count on womc playing 0 Christmas music this year. They are too busy trying to dethrone csx and playing Christmas music will hurt that attempt to steal listeners.

Entercom likely wanted a piece of Christmas ratings this year and chose amp to do it.

A new name and slight adjustment in palylists seems like the likely move here. Their ratings will go up a bit with the Xmas music and make selling ads a little easier.

Well, one of two things is happening here:
- The station made previous commitments to (clueless) advertisers, and is pretending nothing is going on until those commitments are filled.
- This is a weekend-only gimmick, and the station will return to its regular format some time Monday morning.

Update - RDS still reads "98.7 Amp Radio." Would not all be surprised to hear resumption of normal programming either Monday or Tuesday.

could be a name change Monday as mentioned, this is just being a weekend thing, which i kinda doubt. I think the first, is more like it. They are just fulfilling there agreement with there advertisers. Could be Monday they unveil a new format OR this runs till Jan 2nd.

Smells like a rebranding. At this point, I quote Bernie Mac..."I don't believe shit til shit happens". I bet we're stuck with CHR. Can't have enough Drake!

I spoke to one of the former Amp's airstaff on Facebook this morning. I don't know about any format flips after Christmas, but they will be JOCKLESS till after the 1st of the new year. She is still employed by Entercom, but in a more limited role. She did not see this coming either. Obviously, it was a corporate move to give iHeart's 100.3 some surprise competition. I wonder if more "Rudolph Network" stations will pop-up in other Entercom radio markets?

I'm a little surprised they didn't do this in Washington, D.C. with 94.7. A couple weeks ago, that station flipped to Classic Hits as 94.7 The Drive.

I cannot help but wonder if the wintry weather accelerated a planned changeover that had been planned for later this season?

The station retweeted a plug from Luna Royal Oak's twitter about a scheduled live broadcast tonight. Wow. I wonder how that'll work? Live cut-ins between Christmas songs? LOL

I'll explain on the other thread.

The station flipped Monday, November 12, around 5PM ET.

More info here:
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/1718 ... h-network/

Cruise & Julia - the (apparently) outgoing morning time - thought as recently as midday today that they still had jobs. They even posted a Facebook video telling their listeners "not to worry," and that they'd be back on the air after the holidays.

Ya know what happens when you a-s-s-u-m-e!

Abruptly, Julia deleted the video link from her Twitter while Chris Cruise hasn't posted anything to his Twitter since early this morning.

The web site, Facebook page and Twitter page for Amp Radio have all been decommissioned.

I'm not touching the Wheelz format. I don't think enough people remember wheels from 30 years ago unless they do a classic format. But I just don't see it happening. I wish they'd done the Alt format before 106.7! I'd love to have rock on 98.7 again!!!
Boy, oh boy...be careful what you wish for 😒

I wouldn't call 80% of the garbage 98.7 now plays "rock."

It's not. Church of Lazlo, current top 40, and a little bit of 90s rock for most of the work day.

Their RDS PTY still reads "Adult Hits." They may as well keep it as is.

So what is the 'format' of the day at 98.7MHz in Detroit?
