AMP 98.7 flipping!

Post by Realist » Fri Nov 09, 2018 6:06 pm

Can’t believe no one picked up on this. Then again, maybe because no one is listening is the reason they did this:

Just got this from RadioInsight.com

Hmm maybe Soft AC? That format seems to making an expansion recently and Entercom is making waves with the Sound in Seattle.

Underperforming station owned by Entercom.

My prediction, sadly, is WWJ Newsradio 98.7.
A waste of electricity and spectrum, though it is the only way around the problem that white men between 30 and 50 refuse to listen to AM stations because some AMs played music by nonwhites in the past.

It’s interesting that Entercom, even for a short time, would put holiday programming on 98.7, when another (WOMC) would normally be following suit within the next week.

Maybe WLLZ 98.7 or The Wave like 94.7 in L.A. which is a soft R&B with a lot of 80’s &90’s Great station give them a listen on line.

If 98.7 went Christmas after WNIC did, nobody would know that 98.7 did, because all the Xmas listerners would all be listening to WNIC.

Furthermore, by being first, 98.7 may bring down the rating of 100.3

Just looked at the Sound 94.1 in Seattle’s playlist it is more like what Detroit already has now look at The Wave 94.7 ‘s playlist it would go after WNIC,WOMC,The Bounce,Kiss FM,WMXD and Even WDVD So my guess since Entercom Owns The Wave in L.A.they could attempt that format.

I'm hoping for a SOFT AC or the return of smooth Jazz.....
So help me if they put WWJ on it. 😡

Incredible!!!

They just hired a new morning show weeks ago...and brought in a pretty successful PD from WXSS in Milwaukee.

In fact, I listened to the morning duo for a few minutes while listening to work yesterday morning. There was absolutely no sign that anything was amiss.

Might they simply relaunch as CHR after Christmas with a new identity? The station's social media pages are still active with no mention of a change. In fact, posts were made within the past hour!

Bring back WLLZ and program it as a early 70’s - early 90’s based classic rock with a wider playlist than WCSX...

WOMC will not go 100% Christmas this year. Doesn't want to fragment ratings with WNIC. Doing too well at #1 or #2. WWJ AM and WWJ FM would be #1, though I don't know how much advertising revenue it could get with the simulcast. How is WBBM doing revenue wise?

Let me be clear. I am not celebrating the idea that people may be losing jobs, especially so close to the holidays. What I am celebrating, however, is the chance that there may be one less purveyor of club slut/yo dawg/pussy/weed/guns and money in this city. I hope the best for the people involved but won't shed a tear at the thought of losing this format.

The Rock thing would not work we have to many Rock formatted stations now another one will just slice the pie to thin ,Now granted we also have to many R&B stations as well but the difference is The soft R&B format would attract Male&Female demos where the Rock format would attract more Male demos

If they do choose to flip to something new, the top prospects are as follows:
- Soft Rhythmic AC, similar to 94.7 The Wave in Los Angeles, perhaps with a resurrection of the V98.7 branding,
- Classic Rock (likely under the "Wheelz" name) or Variety Rock (like 100.7 KFM-BFM in San Diego),
- a Variety Hits format centered on the 90's & 00's,
- a Newsradio 950 simulcast

I hope some of Amp's on-air personalities are offered jobs elsewhere within the company. Crappy ratings aside, the station did have some talented jocks. I actually kinda liked the new morning show.

For a major market - where format choices are generally stable - Detroit sure has seen a significant number of format changes on the FM dial over the past decade.

93.1
98.7
100.3
102.7
105.1
106.7
107.5

...have all flipped. Some of the above stations have flipped 2 or more times within the past 10 years. There also have been significant playlist shifts at 88.7, 92.3, 96.3 and 104.3.

And all of the above is even before one considers all of the new translator signals that have appeared on the FM dial!
