k100 AND 983 NASH

Post by Deleted User 15408 » Mon May 22, 2023 4:25 pm

Why does K100 play so much gold when they have a Nash icon station in the cluster? It's like K100's footprint is so large that it wants to hold back its sister station. You would think that they would build these stations to protect each other, but nope K100 steps all over 98.3 Nash Icon.

In the meantime the ratings on Nash, while in Monroe suffer because WKKO plays Boot Scootin' Boogie 6 and a half times a week. Tim McGraw's I like it I love it played about 7 times last week. Not to mention that most of their golds are playing about that as well. In fact K100 has 30 songs in rotation that are from the years 1992-2010 that all spin anywhere between 3 to 13 times a week. Some of these golds spin more than some of their currents. I know the goal is to be familiar, but wtf. K100 is the country station that is supposed to be playing the current music in Toledo, while their sister station is the gold based station.

It's almost like their program director has widen the footprint so much and doesn't care that he's now competing with the other stations in the building. I thought the goal of having two stations in a similar format in the same cluster was to build a wall of the format so the competitor can't come in and try to compete and sell around you.

This is like the pd of K100 only cares about one thing, themselves and their bonus check.

K100 makes a lot more money than 98.3 and probably sports a formidable power ratio, too.

Anything to maximize K100's ratings makes complete sense to me.

Of course, if Monroe County country listeners find K100 much more appealing than 98.3, that obviously diminishes 98.3's value proposition for advertisers. Perhaps Cumulus needs to find another format for 98.3.

While this is 100% true. The pd of K100 is also the PD of WRQN and WRQN steps all over WXKR’s playlist.

It’s almost like they don’t care or work to protect the other properties in the building.

There is no reason for WRQN to be playing Metallica or Led Zeppelin. Yet they do.

Again, it’s like the pd only wants to protect himself and collect ratings bonus checks while at the same time stepping on everyone who potentially gets in his way. Not much of a team player that guy is eh?

I just reviewed the WRQN music log for the past day. I didn't see any Zeppelin and I didn't see any Metallica. The WRQN playlist has slightly less of a classic rock lean than WOMC, it seems, but nonetheless plays a substantial amount of it. I did see Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, and Def Leppard - all standard fare for classic hits. A couple songs from ZZ Top and Blue Oyster Cult did catch my attention. I'm guessing Cumulus wants WRQN and not WIOT to be the P2 station for XKR P1s.

Noteworthy is the absence of Guns 'N Roses, Aerosmith and AC/DC from the 93.5 music log hours I reviewed. These are artists WOMC plays quite often.

There is nothing wrong with some reasonable artist overlap between sister stations. I hear songs on WCSX that WRIF still plays. I suspect Majic 105.7 and 106.5 The Lake in Cleveland have some overlap.

I was going to say, I've heard Van Halen on RQN a few times before but I think it's always been either Jump or one of the lighter Van Hagar hits like Love Walks In. Not exactly Atomic Punk or Mean Street. Zeppelin or Metallica except for D'yer Maker, Nothing Else Matters or like one other song between each would also surprise me on RQN.

95.7 used to be a flanker for K-100 back in the 90s, when both were owned (I think) by Booth broadcasting. It was called Y95.7 WYHK, if I recall correctly, they had a mascot that was a Fox that looked a little like WIOT's Coyote. I recall seeing a billboard on Monroe st, near Rudy's Hot Dog and where the old Green Derby restaurant was.

Y95.7 was young country and K-100 a mix of both. I think by this time, 1560 was simulcasting K-100. Y95.7 sort of Cannibalized K-100 and with a lack of a Urban based FM station in Toledo, flipping 95.7 to Urban AC was a no brainer.

98.3 and K-100 now, I don't really see the point. I wouldn't mind seeing 98.3 sold to a local owner and turned into sort of a Full-Service station, " The Voice of Monroe County 98.3 WMIM". Ok, but back to reality, IMO 98.3 should go AC in my view.

I've heard Enter Sandman and Black Dog several times on WRQN. I've also heard WRQN and WXKR playing the same song at the same time.

They step on each other consistently. K100 should just keep itself out of 98.3's backyard. I understand that K100 is the big dog, but both stations cover most of the same areas of the population. There is no reason for a station to share so much of the playlist with its sister station that is literally down the hallway from each other. Build the wall, and maintain the wall. Not throw eggs at your neighbors. Just saying.

Enter Sandman on 93.5? you sure? I have heard the same song on 93.5 playing on 94.5. 93.5 has about the thinnest playlist I've ever seen.

I think the reason why K100 plays some gold hits is due to the station's long heritage as a country station in Toledo. Most imaging prior to a gold cut will say, "Remembering where we came from". 98.3 I think is more AC-like whereas K100 resembles CHR.

93.5 is about the stalest it's been. Same 200 songs every day it seems. They've added some 90's, but it's about 10, and the same ones other stations have been playing for decades.

I don't have a problem with WRQN playing classic rock, but some of the hard stuff could just be on XKR. The Aerosmith songs 93.5 plays tend to be their softer poppier hits, like "Cryin'", "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "Crazy". I've heard "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Sweet Child O Mine" on there, as well as "Dy'rer Maker" on there. Never heard "Enter Sandman" on there unless maybe it was on Backtrax USA the 80s or Tom Kent's The Ultimate Party. If it was on their regular playlist, that's hard for RQN standards.

I too have heard the same song played at the same time on 93.5 and 94.5, "The Boys of Summer" several years ago.

Every radio station should play gold. It keeps the list familiar. K100 though crosses the line and is in 98.3’s backyard. That’s what I’m saying.

K100 could have gold from 2005 and on. While Nash could stay where it is. Then k100 wouldn’t be stepping all over nash.

Just pointing this out because it’s like the pd doesn’t care about the bigger programming picture that should be in play.

Seems just small and petty.
