Anyone wanna dump on Q105.5?

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

They rated below WCKY and a HD - 2 station...

I remember when we all used to think upper 2's was a weak performance for 105.5!

A 1.5 share seems almost unfathomable.

Too bad 107.7 the Wolf doesn't subscribe; would be interesting to see how well (or not) that station is faring. Ditto 95.7, 97.3 and 107.3.

Most if not all of WVKS-HD2's listenership comes from the analog translator at 94.9 MHz.

If you love urban music or country, the Toledo dial sure is flush with plenty of options. I like the fact classic country receives plenty of airplay there.

They float in once I get down to Michigan Ave in the Canton area. All I can say is "meh" at best.

One of the more common complaints about Toledo radio has always been "too much country", but hey, K100 is almost two full points ahead of everyone else.

From what I have been hearing, they are dumping on us quite a bit.

Legit question, and I'm really not trying to dump on them, do you guys think Cumulus has burned out that signal with any type of pop format? Quality of talent is subjective. I've been listening and have heard way worse elsewhere on stations that get way better numbers. Personally, I think the jocks sound good. Eric does a great job getting out in the community and staying plugged in (more so than his counterpart on 92.5). Do I think their numbers should be up there with Kiss? No, but once Kiss went all automated Cumulus had their chance to do something different and cool and ended up missing the boat. I do think the product they're putting out with on the signal they're on should almost default to a 3ish share. I think in the early 2k Steve had it up to a 4.5 share and very competitive with W25-54 (usually beating 101.5) and that was with Brian Casey!

I think the station should retool to directly target 101.5 The River and bring back the "Star 105" moniker.

I suspect Cumulus wants to keep a format on 105.5 that is very female friendly, but if no such restriction existed, I have to believe there'd be some demand in Toledo for a station that sounds similar to 101 WRIF.

The WRIF / WCSX pairing works very well for Beasley in Detroit. The Z93 / Wheelz pairing works very well for Cumulus in Saginaw. Why not try something similar in Toledo?

WIOT is such a LAME sounding station these days.

Agreed. I'm not even sure why I have them as a preset anymore. It's like if you took the 150 most burned-to-a-crisp rock songs and threw them in a blender with a shitty morning show, you'd get WIOT.

Does Toledo not have an option for newer rock that isn't WRIF?

as recently as a little over a year ago we had two, 89X and the Zone. The geniuses at Bell and Cumulus respectively decided we'd be better off with the 4000th country station within 100 miles of Detroit and a virtual 24/7 ESPN radio station. Neither was perfect but I liked both (yes, even the post Dave & Chuck death march version of 89X) better than WIOT.

Such a shame considering how good that station was 20-25 years ago. Certainly better than any rock station we had at the time in Columbus. I was a near constant listener when I attended UT.
The WIOT I've heard on my last few visits back to northwest Ohio is so cookie cutter, nothing you can't get anywhere else. Nothing that says "Toledo" ... or maybe it does.

Classic Country is probably the only niche format in the market, with NashIcon, CKY and the Wolf. NashIcon and the Wolf are both a little stretch, as they're both really more of a Country AC, combining both the new and old. I think Duke FM in Lansing is my favorite of the Classic Country stations in Michigan or Ohio.

I'll give 98.3 credit for bringing Bluegrass and Southern Gospel on a weekly basis on the Toledo airwaves too.

I think 105.5 should either be soft AC, a AAA similar to sisters 107one in AA or 94.5 in Grand Rapids, or active rock. With so many younger people going to non-terrestrial options, I don't know if there is really a need for two CHR'S in any market anymore.

WIOT is about as stale as it's been in years, and the playlist isn't that much different than 94.5 these days. I miss the 104.7 10 years ago when they played a lot of newer songs, but still played plenty of older songs as well. The fact that there's only one local jock on there doesn't help much either.

I liked the Zone when it was on 100.7 too. The Ticket hasn't been great since Norm Wamer got fired, and they lost half of their rights. Does anyone really care about ESPN Radio programming here outside of live events? Cumulus could've easily run the Zone on 100.7 and break away for live sports and maybe the Polka Party. (R.I.P. Sharon).
