1073 alternative Cleveland

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

I'm talking about the iteration that occurred after Boom 107.3 / V107.3 (AAA formatted) went bust.

Yes after V107.3, the station switched back to a hybrid of smooth jazz and AC. My guess is WNWV get's divested to some religious group. Delmarva communications comes to mind as does the dreaded Educational Media Foundation.

I agree. We can also probably add Bible Broadcasting Network and VCY America to the list.

Please no, lol. It’s the only station, outside of the former “Radio92.3” I’ve been able to tolerate in the ten years since I’ve moved out here.

WMMS is alright during the few times they’re playing music.

The old Radio 92.3 was great; I miss that radio station.

VCY America was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the spectrum auction as they got millions to give up their TV station spectrum to channel share with another station in its home market of Milwaukee.

NEW WNWV CLE PD/APD

Post by AMFMTV » Wed May 11, 2022 10:17 am

Neither has programming experience (neither did Mazur...see a trend?). Until a year ago Ursetti was in promotions hanging banners.

It's the CLE market. Why not hire an experienced rock programmer with a positive track record? Invest in the station. IMO this says otherwise. Then again the con-sultant makes the music decision. And, it's Rubber City aka We Pay Shit.

If 1073 is lipstick on the pig, then who is the pig?

The "lipstick" is the rebranding and music shift. The "pig" is 107.3 WNWV. The incompetent farmer who is letting his hog shit seep into the nearest river is Rubber City Radio.

Rubber City Radio does well in Akron because they own two bread & butter rust belt formats (classic rock and country) on two flamethrower signals that have rather little competition. The only competition is similarly formatted stations from Cleveland; those stations aren't nearly as easy to pick up indoors in the Akron area as WONE and WQMX.

These clowns seriously tarnished Q106 in Lansing, completely gutted and killed 92.1 The Edge, and were too stupid to figure out how to properly capitalize on the demise of Oldies 97.5 in Lansing. In that same market, they then launch a dreadful sounding Soft AC station that earned fewer than half the AQH listeners of the format it replaced.

An Active Rock station to target fatigued WMMS listeners or a 60's & 70's-based Oldies station are the best format options.

For the record, I believe an Active Rock signal at 107.3 MHz would do little to no ratings damage to WONE in Akron. WONE went 100% classic rock a while ago, probably skews just a bit older than even WNCX these days, and the iHM-owned Active Rocker from Canton, OH has always earned weak ratings in Akron (despite delivering a decent signal to the area).

I drove through Cleveland a few days ago. It’s better than lame JenY, I’ll say that.

How does Cleveland not have a good rock station? That makes zero sense.

It's the birthplace of Rock and the home of the Rock Hall. I wonder that too.

For some reason, rock formats just don't seem to pop up like they used to. I mean, look at "Detroit Rock City", when it comes to newer/active rock (old AOR), we have...

*checks notes*

WRIF alone since...

*checks notes again*

1999.

So, yeah. Maybe it's a harder sell? Not enough good material to go around? Who knows.

We also have WCSX. But yeah, I get it.
