CD 102.5 Columbus

Post by Power108 » Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:33 pm

https://cd1025.com/update

CD 102.5 no longer broadcasting on 102.5 and online only after LMA with WHIZ expired.

Anyone in Columbus know if anything is being broadcasted on 102.5 currently?

Posters on RadioDiscussions.com have noted the station is playing automated classic rock at the moment, with no DJ's and dead air between songs.

Urban One’s Radio-One has announced it has begun operating 102.5 WWCD Baltimore/Columbus OH via LMA and has launched Regional Mexican “La Grande 102.5“ from radioinsight.com.
IMO would’ve been nice for the Columbus area to see a classic country station hit the airwaves.

And now iHeart flips 105.7 back to Alternative:

Didn't take long for iHeart to react. Although rumors on R-D are implying that whoever the hell operated CD 102.5 is planning on moving it to a translator. Radio Insight floated it around too...

Did CD102.5 ever subscribe to Nielsen? Kinda curious how they performed next to 105.7 when they ran alt...

105.7 was Alternative before and earned OK ratings for the signal. The format was dumped for Fox Sports 105.7, which was a total ratings disaster, which was dumped for 105.7 The Brew - another total ratings disaster.

Returning 105.7 to the format is a no-brainer. Wouldn't surprise me if the station uses the same lame playlist as sister station 103.9 in Dayton.

So far, it sounds pretty gold-heavy, even compared to iHeart “Alt” stations. This will be iHeart’s FOURTH attempt at Alternative in Columbus (Radio and X on 106.7 and X and Alt on 105.7). They all attained low to mid 2 shares, though I remember it getting low-mid 3s in 2012-13 when the format sounded a lot better than it does today.

I guess they believe Alt can be successful this time since CD is relegated to online and possibly a translator.

Thatonedude, CD subscribed until I wanna say 2014 and their ratings were about the same as X (usually 2-3 shares each), with each station gaining edges over the other for a few months at a time. I remember CD running liners saying something along the lines of “Local. Not Corporate. CD102.5”. It was an interesting time in C-Bus radio, though I preferred X and the Blitz if I was in the mood for modern rock.

Edit: Just after typing my initial reply, 105.7 started playing “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads. How often do you hear them on Alternative radio these days?

Talking Heads? On a new iHeart alt station? I’m impressed...you don’t hear them on alt radio often outside of specialty stuff.

Sources at CD102.5 says an announcement is coming in the next couple days, I assume back on the dial for them albeit probably on a low power transmitter.

It'll be a non-factor.
