WBCQ - Toledo?

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

WBCQ - Toledo?

Post by WOHO » Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:00 am

Whazzup with that? Big ole billboard on Monroe Street directing you to the bottom of the FM band for WBCQ. Satellite feed only, I presume, not the call letters? Where's the stick?

Ok I'm confused now. Unless the station in Maine recently relinquished those call letters. I wanna say it's a pirate but they would not advertise that on a billboard. What dial position is it at?

An affiliate of WBCL-FM (K-Hate competitor) on 88.9 in Toledo. New calls for WTPG?

Saw a billboard on the Trail for WBCL a few days ago as well. This is WTPG 88.9 simulcasting WBCL'S satellite feed. They started airing it around the 1st of November.

WTPG's website (wtpg.krtmradio.org) still says that station's affiliated with that network and on 89.3 FM.... but that can't be right, since that's the frequency of Yes FM... what's going on over there?

Ok... Now I get it. WBCQ, a play on WBCL. I knew it was a matter of time, that WBCL would enter the Toledo market.

To answer WOHO's earlier question, I believe WBCQ/WTPG uses the same tower as 107.7 WPFX, alongside I-75 a few miles north of the Bowling Green exit.

I watched too much WKRP, I thought someone wrote WPIG, not WTPG.
Thanks MW, so it's a satellite feed, and on the same tower (4 miles NE of BG airport) as WPFX and WNOC, so 3 FM's now on that Wood County tower.

I wonder if WRQN has an aux setup on their same main tower in Haskins or have thought of having an aux on the WPFX party tower? Engineering never was first priority for Cumulus, but I will have to say that iHeart/CC did spend some money on having backups and aux setups about everywhere. Some cases, I think their backup transmitter is actually better quality than the main transmitter.

WBCQ SW still uses the calls, but since shortwave is a different service than domestic broadcasting, the calls can also be allocated elsewhere in other services. Same, evidently, for AM, FM and TV calls, which in some cases, Wxxx-AM and Wxxx-FM calls are spread apart by several hundreds or thousands of miles.

I was riding around north Toledo this evening. I saw three of the billboards.

It's WBCL. Not WBCQ.
