Was that the smooth jazz station? I listened to them briefly while driving through a few months ago. Not really my style, but it helped soothe traffic jams heading east on I-90.

Yup.

While I'd love Cleveland to finally have a real rock station (WMMS is absolutely TERRIBLE), I doubt that's in the cards.

My guesses are Soft AC, gold-based Country, Alternative, and Throwback Rhythmic Hits.

My guesses are either Country of some form or Soft AC. While WQMX puts a nice signal into the western part of the market (I don’t travel much into the East parts anymore so no idea there), Cleveland is the only PPMmarket in the Great Lakes region that doesn’t have two Country stations that specially target Cleveland. Soft AC would be as nice counter to WDOK, though, and it seems to be the format of the moment.

While I would love a better rock station than WMMS or an Alternative station that isn’t a translator (Not to mention the boring iHateMedia playlist), I just don’t see them going to either of those.

Does Milwaukee have two marketwide Country stations? I don't think they do! 92.1 from Racine and 92.5 from West Bend only cover portions of the market.

Remember, the nitwit who purchased 94.5 WKTI-FM decided to throw a rather popular Country format in the garbage can in favor of a rather shitty, ESPN-heavy sports format that doesn't even grab a 1 share!

Also, Columbus, OH is only a one Country station market. WCLT from Newark, which delivers a decent signal to the eastern half or so of Franklin County, focuses on Newark & surrounding areas - not Columbus.

They've been all Christmas since Thanksgiving Day at earliest. Mainly Smooth Jazz cuts, which for me is a refreshing change from hearing Band Aid every 90 minutes on WDOK or WMJI.

Hoping for a Soft AC as WDOK is very hot as far as mainstream AC goes and seems to overlap with their sister station Q104 quite a bit. I'll puke if it goes bro/boyfriend country (throwback country would be somewhat more tolerable). I'm also hoping the Smooth Jazz sticks around as an HD2/3, as it did when The Wave disappeared the first time.

The Clev market needs a 24/7 Active rocker since the Buzzard is mostly talk or a Classic Rock that Really Rocks format since NCX is sooo friggin boring imo.

Rockers are underserved in that city.Alot of subs for SXM Im sure.

Rubber City does zero HD programming.

The rumor — as yet unconfirmed — is that the WQMX signal will be piggybacked onto the 107.3 frequency as a simulcast. An industry insider said that the move would greatly increase the reach of WQMX, as it’s heard as far west as Port Huron and even further south.
Holy shit - so many things wrong with the above excerpt from the cleveland.com article!!!

First off, I presume "Port Huron" should instead read "Port CLINTON." :lol

Secondly, how the fucks would a 94.9/107.3 "greatly" increase the reach of WQMX? 94.9 can already be heard fine across much of the Cleveland metro, and both 94.9 and 107.3 have crappy coverage to the east and northeast of downtown Cleveland. The 107.3 tower is only about six miles closer to downtown Cleveland than the 94.9 tower.

True, 107.3 can be heard well in Sandusky and Norwalk whereas 94.9 cannot. So what! Those areas have very little bearing on ad purcashing decisions in the Cleveland radio market.

Also, the claim that a 94.9/107.3 simulcast would somehow make life difficult for WGAR is laughable. 99.5 WGAR has a far superior signal in the heart of the market.

If 94.9 & 107.3 wind up simulcasting, it will strictly be a budgetary move and nothing more! Wouldn't shock me if Rubber City just winds up selling 107.3 at some point. K-Love lacks a station in the Cleveland metro, for instance.

I caught the Port Huron line too. It has to be Port Clinton, unless the cities of Port Clinton and Huron merged and no one told us...

Selling to K-Love is intriguing. I am not as up on the Cleveland market. Didn’t know they didn’t have a station. Does Rubber City have an AM in Cleveland or Akron they might simulcast on the FM?

They own 1590 WAKR, which already has a translator on 93.5 serving the Akron area.
