103.7 WCKY

For those of you who wanted a format change at 103.7, here you go! They went back to the “Buckeye Country” branding as well as focusing on a Classic Country presentation. I like the move. It allows them to exit a crowded current-based Country field and pivot to something that differentiates themselves while still serving where the signal best reaches.

Nice, the closest thing we've had to this is 98.3. Finally, a move that makes sense.

My heart sank a little but at least it's something. Now if WKXA would change back to classic hits...

If done right, classic country can carve its' own niche and have a loyal, devoted following (see the WKFI/WEDI/WBZI trimulcast in Dayton, or WOBL in Oberlin). Haven't listened much to iHeart's classic country feed so who knows what will happen. Bobby Bones remaining in AMD is a stretch, but a market clearance is a market clearance.

I LOLed at this quote from their press release, however:
“This is actually a return to the station’s roots,” notes Account Executive Todd Wright, who has been with WCKY-FM for thirty years. “The call letters WCKY were actually selected from the word ‘buCKeYe,’ and we were known as ‘Buckeye Country’ until 2007.”
Surely Todd knows that the station was known as WTTF-FM prior to 1998.

I really like 105.9 WNKN out of Cincinnati/Dayton. When I was in the Kings Island area last week, I listened to it from Dayton to Kings Island and then to just outside of Columbus.

I think it's a good move. I think the format better fits the rural areas better. I think because the stick is down in Tiffin, That's a more conservative area... and even an older demographic. WCKY was never a Toledo station. Only the studios were in Toledo. Toledo is just outside the city grade signal.

This would have better for 1520, but it’s an improvement on what was on the station.

I'll have to take listen. I always thought 103.7 would become a simulcast of WSPD. Still, I wish someone would exit the format and do Jack-fm. I have no idea what the ratings for The Wolf are. 103.7 seems to get the bulk of its local AD"s from Tiffin and Findlay, so I can see how classic country makes sense.

It wasn't worth it for iHeart to give up another revenue stream like that by slapping Speedy on 103.7. Plus, as was seen with WOWO, the audience easily would stay on the AM side to the point where a full-power FM simulcast was unnecessary.

Talk radio has a lot of problem formantically that moving to FM just won't solve, a rare exception being WMAL.

The dummies at iFart ironically continue their vain attempt to position this station as a Toledo station. It's laughable.

The Bobby Bones morning show is a terrible fit for the classic country music format.

Is 98.3 Nash Icon still mixing in crappy songs from the 00's & 2010's that sound horrendously out of place next to the 80's & 90's material?

98.3 is taking the Nash Icon feed 24/7, no? Whatever music issues they had would be across-the-board. (And "flagship" WSM-FM outranks WKDF and WSIX in Nashville, so it's apparently working in Music City. Go figure.)

WCKY is still a Tiffin/Findlay station because the transmitter was never moved in closer to Toledo. It really should have been sold to BAS in 2008, not that they'd be any better an owner.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Premiere is using WCKY-FM to say that Bobby Bones' morning show can be "heard in Detroit..." :rollin

If anyone could physically clone Adrian, Tiffin would be the likely result.

(not that a clone equals or betters the original)

Adrian and Tiffin, both holes. Paradise compared to Fotrioit.

I think I-H tried to unload WCKY once, I think the company was goodlife radio? Religious? The deal fell through at the 11th hour I'm told. I'm not sure why they hold onto this station, right the fact that they try to include it with: WIOT,WRVF,WSPD,and WVKS is just dumb.

Nash in Monroe? No idea what's going on over there.
