1560 WWYC off the air again
1560 WWYC off the air again
Wonder if they blew another transmitter? they have been off the air for a little while.
Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
Sounds like 1090 in Detroit. They go off the air whenever the wind blows.
Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
WCAR and WWYC might as well pack it in. 1090 Detroit is a waste of electricity. 1560 was donated because Cumulus didn't want to deal with all it's technical issues anymore, plus it being a daytimer, it made sense to cut it loose.
Seems like it makes sense to just surrender 1560's license to the FCC at this point. Heck, Cumulus could just donate 106.5 to CSN and write if off on there taxes, They could get, in return The 99.5 Translator in Perrysburg(maybe move it a bit closer to Oregon or East Toledo?). Pair it up with 100.7 and move The ticket there.

Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
Let's get some facts straight here:
Cumulus swapped 1560 for the flimsy 100.7 translator, some years ago. 1560 lost 1 tower when the Arlington Ave studios were expanded. It hasn't been the same since. Not sure what 1560 is paying for site rent, if anything.
1090 WCAR (WIID) was a moneymaker when Walter Wolpin owned it. Every hour, including nighttime, was sold out. They had every sort of programming you can think of. At night, there was a Christian rock show called "Higher Power" a play on words between the type of show, and the fact that 1090 is one of those odd stations that increases power at night. When the Catholics took over, all of the paid programming went away. When Sima took over...well, you know the rest.

I’m curious to see how much Of the AM Dial will be left in like 10 years, I personally think that the 20’s will Be “The Decade Of Change” for all broadcast radio and television with 5G on the very near horizon, Over-the air anything will have a tremendous challenge to have to compete. How much music or video content have most of us consumed from over-the-air broadcast today for me about 5 minutes. My point is everyone will Have Internet and broadband with 5G tech that will kick the broadcasters out of the water.

It was nice to hear WTAM in the Detroit area during the day when 1090 was off.
Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
I'm still waiting to see if they ever run their 3 watts at night on 1560? But, doesn't the transmitter have to be FCC-type accepted? The days of built it yourself with a one tube AM transmitter are probably long gone. I believe that some of the Class D daytimers out west DO actually make use of their 3 watts on AM at night, but that was originally to satisfy the translator being an FM repeater of the AM signal when that was the rule, and still kinda is.
Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
I just see it as futile, to keep 1560am going. CSN has struggled technically to keep it going as of late.
I do agree that, in the next 10 years the AM dial will be hollowed out quite a bit.

Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
A lot of CSN's stations and translators are in the middle of nowhere. The isolated translator near Deshler, OH comes to mind, along with several in the California desert. WWYC probably covers more people than the majority of CSN's other facilities by far. But your point is well taken.

Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again
I thought they shut that one down, it was on like 88.5 or somewhere there abouts. A majority of CSN's stations are on FM translators. CSN does have a 4k watt FM station near the VA-WV border. It would seem to make sense to Shut 1560 down and Cumulus could unload 106.5, basically use it as a tax write off. They shut down that FM in Missouri(can't remember where), the calls were KZJF, that was on the list of stations to be spun off. Currently it's WTOD, WNUQ in GA,and WPCK in WI.
