Rescan TV Channel Moves in Toledo
Rescan TV Channel Moves in Toledo
You heard it here first, WNWO is moving their RF signal on down the spectrum, and probably with less power, so the signal will be super sucky - thanks FCC and cellphone hogs.
WNWO is to make the cut at 10AM on November 30th, so a 'rescan' will be required for your OTA TV, OTA TiVo's, and HD converter boxes.
I really hate to think that they will have less power, should let it be the same.
Also, I believe that WBGU agreed to move their RF, possibly back to their real RF27 ??
WGTE will remain at RF29, WTOL at RF11 and WTVG at RF13. CH40 WLMB remains on RF5.
Does WUPW 36 have to move too- I think that they are forced by virtue of 2/3 of the band gone, sold to the almost highest bidder.

They've been on RF 27 since shutting down their analog transmitter in December 2008; they will move down to RF 22.
Yes; they're moving to RF 26.

Checking WNWO's new RF's coverage map on RabbitEars and it looks like I should probably still be able to pick it up once they move.
I am just outside of their Minimum Field Strength Contour, which in the Downriver area cuts across the very northern populated tip of Grosse Ile, then through the heart of Riverview, the extreme southwest corner of Southgate, parts of southern Taylor and right through the middle of Detroit Metro Airport.
Their larger Noise-Limited Bounding Contour, or protection area, includes Wyandotte and extends as far up as the I-94/Southfield interchange in Allen Park.

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!
Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

WNWO has both a construction permit, and a special temporary authority for UHF 23.
the Construciton permit says 120 kW at 728 feet, while the special temporary authority has a much larger coverage area, thanks to being at its current height (1389 feet) and well over double the power (275 kW instead of the current 105 kW)... which is what WNWO will be using afterwards?

The lower the frequency, the less power is required to maintain a similar footprint.
Shortwave is the ORIGINAL satellite radio.
Re: Rescan TV Channel Moves in Toledo
I think many stations will end up attempting to up power (mainly to improve signal in the outer reaches of their markets)

Re: Rescan TV Channel Moves in Toledo
My big question is... won't WUDT-LD have to shut down or move to VHF 8? it's way too shortspaced to WNWO and would just get destroyed by it...

I wish that would happen in the Northern MI market to cover what was lost. But sadly, not exactly going to help certain areas. And the translators are still crap.

I'm not a genie in a bottle, but your wish for Northern MI might come true! Cadillac is my hometown, and my geeking out on OTA keeps me watching rabbitears.info and other places for information on that market area (in addition to my own West Michigan home market).
All but one full-power commercial station in the Northern Lower Peninsula and the Eastern UP applied last year to raise their power during the available FCC filing windows. (Only WBKB in Alpena didn't.)
Those that repack to new frequencies in Oct. 2019 had their boosted strength approved soon after their window concluded. Thus, WPBN & WTOM (NBC on .1; ABC on .2; etc.) will increase then, as well as WFUP from Vanderbilt (CBS/FOX/ME).
All the others not having to switch frequencies have their applications pending, which seems to be the case nationwide for the appropriate filing window that opened briefly a year ago. WWTV wishes to remain king of the hill, so to speak, for having the largest covered footprint. If you use the site rabbitears.info pages that I link below, and open the "Technical Data" section for all the full-power commercial stations (so not the PBS ones), you'll find that WWTV, WGTU, WFQX, WGTQ, and WWUP all want to dial up their wattage:
