WMTU tower relocation

Post by zoomer69 » Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:22 pm

I recently noticed that WMTU (Michigan Tech's student station) has filed a construction permit to move their tower location from their current location off Coal Dock Rd. near Ripley back to the original location on top of Wadsworth Hall (and an associated power cut from 4400 watts to 100 watts).

The current tower location has been in use since 2005, and was a dramatic improvement in coverage area from the previous tower site.

Anyone on here know the story behind this?

In 1970 it was "WRS" and the broadcast was AM with limited range in the dorms. Their line was "Broadcasting from an old broom closet in Wadsworth Hall".
I think WRS was on the low end of the AM band and WRSM (Wadsworth Radio Study Music) at 1600.
WDHH was another dorms station. I don't recall "CO-ED" (McNair) had a station.
