106.3 in Esky

Post by MWmetalhead » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:17 am

Is this station still off the air? The lack of mention of this station's disappearance is rather surprising.

Did Eagle 107.3 suck away all their listeners and advertisers?

Hope someone does something with the stick. I remember being able to hear the station damn near 24/7 when on vacation in Grand Traverse County some 12 or 13 years ago! Carries across the big lake exceptionally well.

Station is still off as off Saturday.

My favorite was when they were Top40 as Mix 106 and fought with Magic 97.

Too many Classic Rockers & Classic Hits here!

Yup. They were a very rock-friendly top 40 when I heard them a year or two after signing on. It was kinda different, but sounded good. Brian James did their sweepers at the time, if I remember correctly. Presentation was pretty slick for a yooper station.

They continue to have transmitter issues, is what the story is..... Based on what I've seen/ heard Kool 105.5 has done wuite well with listenership, especially since they aren't playing the same old 70's tracks. I am bias sure, but Kool has done a nice job of grabbing listeners, especially since they DO have a local Escanaba presence. I'm not sure Eagle even has a Delta County salesperson..... As for MIX, they were formidable those early years. Ask someone that worked there WHY they flipped to classic hits within 3 days. It's a rather funny story (from my point of view anyway.)

@FordRiverFlyer- I only know my side of it.... I was told what happened internally at Escanaba License Corp. Let me just tell you it was an inside joke at RRN offices on April 1st, with a few of us bumming we didn't come up with an epic April Fools Prank. So we did something to that station. The Best Mix of today's hits........ 3 Days later.... The Best Mix of Classic Hits, I don't like to share that part since I wasn't in there, obviously. But someone that was told me it was pandamonium there.

They were still off last weekend. No rush to get back on?

It's not even in radio-locator.

How long have they been off the air?

Are they still licensed? And on another note, is Channel 8 in Iron Mountain still licensed?

Don't quote me on this, but I was told by a very reliable source that Mix 106 is now silent. If it's true, it's quite a shame.

However, I have to wonder how many people are really concerned about the station? There's such a lack of discussion of it here on the buzzboard.

If this was 10 years ago...it would be a major loss for Central U.P. radio. Over the last 5 years or so, Mix 106 has really lacked any decent programming, imo. When they first signed on, they were quite amazing and really stood out. I know several folks that would agree with me.

IF they in fact do come back on, they should really try something different. Escanaba really lacks a decent rock station. 93 Rock from Iron Mountain is about the only rock outlet available to that area, but has a very weak signal in many parts of town.

I agree with how great they sounded when they first signed on. I remember the excitement hearing a station that played Metallica, Kid Rock, Korn, etc...that I didn't have to travel to Green Bay to hear. They also mixed in the hot hits music, which worked for me as well since our local Q107 wasn't doing anything to support that. Such a shame that all good formats fall in favor to the same lame crap that everyone is doing (and yes I'm talking about country, oldies, classic hits, religious, and "today's hits yesterday's favorites") No disrespect to those who choose those formats, but there are a lot more choices than those.

According to Radio-Locator their license expires October 1. Should be interesting to see what happens in the next two months.

I don't know how long they have been off the air but as of March 2012 they still were doing a bargain show: (at least on the net) http://www.wmxg.com/Big%20Bargain%20Show.htm
