9&10 is such a mess right now

Things have gone from bad to worse at the station. We just lost another reporter, which means we only have two. Our main story on the website all weekend was some DNR guy retiring, instead of all the snow we got. And it sounds like we're not doing well financially, We let go of 6 people back in the fall because of a lack of advertisers. The confusing part is that our bosses decided to keep the farmer and the chickens, but let PEOPLE go.

You all should do what they do in Lansing. Hire a couple college kids to copy/paste press releases into articles on the website. Then, the anchors can read those verbatim on the air. There is no longer any need to have an actual reporter do any digging. The police departments and governments are known for being transparent and providing all the information citizens would ever need.....

If it makes you feel better, I haven't watched local news in years. The Traverse City manager once told me that the unofficial policy was to engage the paper, ignore TV. Most TV reporters have no idea about how government works. News can be found in newspapers.

And snowstorm coverage is entertainment. Every road commission and sheriff department has a Facebook page with real time accident and weather information.

Only two reporters? And how many newscasts? Must be one hell of a lot of work for two people to contribute so the same stories aren't told over and over...

It seems many companies that are adding newscasts don't do the homework before hand with regard to staff. Money dwindles, so keep the newscasts, but get rid of the stuff that contribute to all those news slots, so that money can be used to keep said news in production. Seems a bit backwards?

Here's where someone points out that broadcast even in larger markets doesn't pay a livable wage for the rents and other cost of living considerations in Traverse City. Even if they have interested candidates, I bet they can't afford it. I bet if they converted some of the studio space in TC into housing, their problem would be solved.

Zach left for Lansing — kinda lateral move if you ask me. Wanted to get far away from 9&10 as fast as he could. Can’t believe he’s making much more in Lansing than he did in TC. Shows how bad morale is there.

As for the former TC Manger, he was a POS that was run outta town. I wouldn’t believe a thing he said. Just go to 7&4 and 9&10’s website and you can see he was like every politician— going in front of cameras whenever he could.
