Mackinaw City FM has just been sold
94.5 WYPV reportedly has been sold to Billy Sours (who just sold WBZV in the Hillsdale - Adrian area) for $140,000.
He has applied to change calls to either WBSX or WSBX; I cannot recall which.
I believe this station was previously relaying Q100 from Grayling.
It is possible this station will return to the air with a rock format of some kind, which frankly would make no sense to me at all. The area already has three classic rock stations (WSUE in the Soo flipped back to classic rock recently) plus an active rock station.
I'm unaware of any obvious format void in the region, other than perhaps Sports (good luck making money with that format on a standalone FM with limited population reach). I do not believe there is a Hot AC formatted station up that way, but that format was tried years ago on 94.5 and evidently didn't fare too well (remember Star 94.5?).

Lite 96 is mainstream adult contemporary and is very library / gold driven.

WSBX, now why is that familiar...
Ah, yes. The same call letters used by the legendary Woody Nelson, on the daytime AM he torpedoed in southwest Georgia.
Good times.

Word has it that WSBX has teamed up with WUPN in the Sault ste Marie area. The stations are apparently simulcasting and were rebranded as 94.5/95.1 The bridge.

Listened for a bit online. Not a bad sounding station even though the music isn't to my personal liking. This is a rock-leaning classic hits station.

Does this mean the looping radio message that is played when crossing the Mackinac Bridge will no longer be played??? That is tradition to listen to when crossing the bridge.

That's at 530 and 1610 kHz, so I think that's safe.BirdieKingBobo wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 5:02 pmDoes this mean the looping radio message that is played when crossing the Mackinac Bridge will no longer be played??? That is tradition to listen to when crossing the bridge.
