When one considers the tax benefit of the "gift," Midwestern is basically selling this station for ~$250,000. Not a horrible price when one considers the signal limitations.

If this deal is like some of the ones from the past, the cash paid by WLJN was also donated by other broadcasters to get the signal out of commercial inventory.

103.9 was acquired by WCMU in the 1990's this way.

Maybe not. But there are some other advantages to a smaller number of stations. And it keeps any of the other clusters from buying it and using it as a flank attack. Langer gets to hide some of the cash from the other sales in the “charitable contribution” and everyone is happy.
