Been a while since I've watched 9&10... wow. Looking at the staff roster, I have no idea who half those people are...

It appears that the two female weather personalities, Meteorologist Haleigh Vaughn and Forecaster Samantha Jacques have basically vanished, other than "Facebook reporting" from Haleigh. Glad that there's still employment for at least one of them.

What worries me is that stations all over the country are going to realize that they have been able to get by with less personnel, and once the brunt of the crisis is over, there will be less jobs across the industry.

Well most of the problem will come in the form of covering stories at the location. Especially in situations like Detroit (where there could be 3 - 5 stories in one day within in a 20 mile radius) or Nothern MI, where distance to spread out quite far. In that instance, there would probably be more one-person "news rooms" around the area.

I'm not sure where they all are now, but isn't there someone (from both 9&10 and 7&4) 'stationed' in four different towns now? I seem to recall Manistee, Petoskey, Gaylord, and Cadillac (for 7&4), TC (9&10). Although maybe I'm dating myself a bit and those don't exist anymore.

9&10 also once had a remote newsroom in Mt. Pleasant and possibly Houghton Lake, and 7&4 had one in Cheboygan.

That was sort of a '70s and '80s thing. The Green Bay stations all had a "Fox Valley" newsroom in the Appleton vicinity.

Brewvine &10 has a presence in Petoskey, but IDK about a formal 'newsroom'. A couple staffers can often be seen tooling around town in a little maroon Jeep with their logo in side rear windows.

They used to have a camera pointed towards downtown & Little Traverse Bay on top of the 3-4 story building they're in, but took it down a year or two ago.

As for being down a wx person, there's no evidence of it in their on-air promos or here:

I'm not a fan of how 9&10 presents the 7 day forecast.

Would it kill them to provide separate forecasts by geographical zones, similar to how 7&4 does it?

Temps, precip and sky conditions in the Soo and Newberry can be far, far different than Traverse City.

That's the reason for the temperature range. But I agree, having the 7-day split into two geographical zones would be helpful.

I don't see why they wouldn't still do that though. As for 7&4, I don't understand why they stopped using the WTOM studio as a newsroom and had a place in Petoskey, similar to today. Instead (or maybe in addition) of Gaylord, why not use the building in Cheboygan? Also, 9&10 *could* put something in Cheboygan/Mackinaw City area. Or perhaps north of the bridge?

Remote trucks have taken over for remote studios. Back in the '80s, remote vehicles capable of live uplinks were much less plentiful than they are now.

Yes, but in terms of land coverage area, this is still a large market. The average drive between towns is about 30 minutes. Many outside of TC/Cadillac are 45 - to an hour or more.

I'm not a fan of the temperature ranges myself. It's hard to know what the exact temp in your local will be. Though the higher end of the temps tend to be in the southern viewing area.

Was just announced on air that Miss Vaughn will soon be leaving the station to be closer to family.

Apparently, Wednesday was her last day. Bummer, I thought she was the best of them at 9 and 10.

Agreed that Ms. Vaughn was very good - from the get-go, starting as a weekend 'forecaster', you could tell she had the chops, which she honed quite nicely during her tenure at the stations. She should have no problem landing a gig elsewhere.

Time again for the annual crop of CMU grads to become faces on Brewvine & 10.
