WWTV: 9.5 = QVC & 9.6 = HSN

Post by statmanmi » Fri Apr 03, 2020 7:38 pm

I hadn’t yet seen a mention of this....

About 10 days ago, WWTV RF 9 added sub-channels 9.5 & 9.6. Previously they were simulcasting 9.3 & 9.4 respectively, but at a noticeably lower bit rate (pixelization evident).

Today was the day that the likely permanent content was activated: QVC & HSN. Yeah.

Thus, WWTV RF 9’s lineup from “Mt. Dighton” (Grove Hill) is now:

9.1: CBS 1080i HD
9.2: WFQX simulcast, so “Local 32” FOX affiliate 720p HD
9.3: MeTV Widescreen SD
9.4: Laff Widescreen SD
9.5: QVC Widescreen SD
9.6: HSN Widescreen SD

I’m unsure if their other broadcast signals have had similar additions. Perhaps others Up North can check.

I’ll get my laptop with TSReader Lite powered up sometime this month to check the bit allocations. I gotta simmer down some first though, as I’m not thrilled that the bits stolen from the other streams have only yielded this programming. Oh well.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

I wondered what they were up to when they added 9.5 and 9.6. So what's in it for WWTV? Do they get some kind of kickback from QVC and HSN?

I didn't even know Laff and MeTV where even there! But I don't have an antenna.

MeTv has been on 2 years maybe more. Good channel, I watch it a lot. The others are more recent adds.

It's funny that these sub channels aren't offered on pay TV.

MeTV isn't bad...although for almost two years now they've been playing back to back Hogan's Heroes at 10 every weeknight...they only made 168 of those, so that has gotten a bit repetitive.

My understanding is that stations carrying them get a cut of the purchases made.
