Did WKHQ or WKPK Ever Have A Published Record Survey?

WJML did sometimes. Anyone have the in house surveys?

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

I don't recall that either KHQ or KPK had surveys. We stopped publishing ours at JML in 1979.

Did they just use Billboard, Cash Box, Record World, etc., or did they have a typed/written in house survey? Usually they had those, if only for intro times for "hitting the post". I probably would have been good at that. Once I was at a seminar where the speaker asked a few of us to walk around the conference table in thirty seconds. I walked around the table in exactly thirty seconds!

My story about WKHQ. I lived in West Central Michigan when WKHQ came on the air, and I was receiving it on my Sony supersensitive, selective for that time, portable radio. It was analog, and I wasn't sure if it was on 105.9 or 106.1. I called and asked. The DJ told me "We're on 109.5". I knew then that he must have been a rookie. In retrospect, I guess I should have known that it had to be 105.9, as it would have had to be 65 miles away from WWRM 106.7 at the time if it was on 106.1. I think WKLT 97.7 had signed on at about the same time, and I heard that too.

This looks like an in-house survey from WGRY 1590 Grayling from 1973. This was a few years before it was sold to Alpine Broadcasting/John DeGroot, so there was no connection to WWRM/WKPK at the time.

Keep in mind that this is also not the previous WGRY 1370 in Gary, IN which had those call letters before it was WLTH. WLTH did have surveys available, and often led the Chicago Market in new track adds.

Wow! I had no idea Tim Nixon had been in Petoskey since the 70s! Used to listen to him on 96.3 after KHQ started playing more rap.
