Heard the new call letters during a top of hour ID.Also you can see the new calls by going to the Air One website look for station locations and pressing Petoskey Michigan. This also tells the coordinates of the transmitter.

Was not aware KLT was currently simulcasting on WRGZ.

What time did you first hear it? Sometimes they'll also do a legal ID which has the legal call letters. They did that when WDTW 106.7 changed to WLLZ.

Just heard a legal ID on WKLT,93.5 is still WBCM and yes 96.7 WRGZ is now part of the simulcast.

As far as the WKLZ calls go, seems like it would be a perfect fit for one of the major K-Love stations.

So as of now 97.5. 93.5. And 96.7 WRGZ is playing KLT
Weeks ago, someone hinted on KLT's Facebook page that a simulcast on WRGZ might be afoot.

This is the first time in a long time classic rock has been available in Alpena County on a good signal. WWTH is a mediocre rimshooter for Alpena County. From time to time, I think The Bear has been available on a tiny translator in Alpena proper, but last time I checked, the translator that once aired The Bear now rebroadcasts Mac-FM instead.

With the WRGZ and WATZ-FM signals having so much overlap, breaking up the simulcast makes some sense, although Country fans in Rogers City and Onaway might not be too happy about this decision.

Frankly, there's been an alarming decrease in Country music outlets in far northern lower Michigan in recent months. 105.5's move to a location much closer to the Soo, 95.3 going classic rock, 93.5 going classic rock, and now 96.7 going classic rock has resulted in at least four signals where Country can no longer be heard. The opening for 106.7 to flip to a Country format upon its return to the air is now a mile wide.

I think Rock 105/95.5 is also on a translator in Alpena

As I recall from the TOH ID, WWMK 106.3 is on the W251AD 98.1 Alpena translator. WGFM may be on their other translator, W279CC 103.7 Alpena.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

I'm going to miss the strong, clear FM signal that 96.7 provided sports fans here in the Cheboygan/Presque Isle/ Montmorency County areas. WRGZ cleared all 4 Detroit sports teams' broadcasts (yes, Pistons too, incredibly). Now it's back to a hodge-podge of weak translators of WCBY, WMBN, etc.

Yup - 103.7 Alpena translates Rock 105. That's been the case for at least a few years now.

One man's alarm is another man's pleasant ringtone. :blink

You're right, though - it does leave a pretty wide hole for some operator to, um, step into. Black Diamond may need the competition.

The FCC shows that WAWM is now the official callsign for 98.9. Earlier today, it still showed as WKLZ-FM.

IIRC, weren't there strong rumors that 106.7 The Peak was going to flip to Country in the early '90s? I seem to even recall the call letters WKCK being bandied about to replace WKPK.

On the subject of translators in Alpena, The Peak had one there on 102.3 back in the '90s. "WKPK Gaylord/Petoskey/Cheboygan/Traverse City... and 102.3 Alpena... playing Northern Michigan's Hottest Hits." That's been gone for a long time. Also, IIRC 98.1 repeated Tawas/Hillman's Hits FM for a time.

I could easily see MacDonald-Garber expanding Cadillac's "Bull" brand to 106.7.

When is Patty's House of Tunes taking over 106.7, or did that transaction not close yet?
