101.9 wldr

Post by hunterw » Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:07 am

101.9 has been silent the last few days. Still broadcasting but no audio, just dead air. Anyone know why?

Yeah, I do know why. The people running the station are morons!

99.3 was transmitting without audio yesterday and is off completely today.

Fortunately, no one really cares about either station in Traverse City.

I heard the group tired to do a fundraiser this summer in T.C. and they had a tough time getting a charity to partner with them.

I clearly hear that BOTH stations, WLDR and WQAN, are on the air. Interesting that no audio is coming from either of them for several days now.

According to a Facebook post it is a technical issue that will keep them off air until Monday. No other details.

Anyone know if WQAN is still using an unauthorized transmitter location?

Q100 hasn't been on much since that incident. It was fuzzy, as if it was coming from Benzie the last time I tuned in.

The application for the booster has been accepted for filing. I don't understand why they have a deep null toward Traverse City. The 60 dBu just has to fit inside the main facility 60 dBu. If anyone can figure out why, let me know. I looked at the application. Yes, it is short spaced as a Class C2 station there to WATZ-FM, but it shouldn't be an issue requiring a null for a booster of that ERP. The rules say that the booster can't interfere with the main station signal WITHIN THE COL. Traverse City is not the COL.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

You answered your own question; it's because the booster's 60 dBu needs to fit inside the main station's 60 dBu.

If the primary station were broadcasting at full strength, there'd probably be no need for a booster of this nature in the first place (and the co-channel transmission would likely produce a garbled mess in TC proper).

Yes, I figured out what the nondirectional ERP of a booster could be back when people were talking about the pirate. I'll look back thorough my calculations to see what I came up with. They only have to be 6 dB lower than first adjacents. Other than the 60 dBu booster contour being inside the licensed 60 dBu station contour for Class As and the various Class Cs, there are no other restrictions except the 20% ERP restriction. I will look at my calculations and append this post.

From May in my notes:

About 4 watts from about 200 meters HAAT on the WLDR tower, along the 90 degree radial, would be legal for a WQAN AUX. This would put a 60 dBu contour inside the 60 dBu contour of the LIC WQAN facility, which goes to about the East side of the Marina and down along the Westernmost point of Boardman Lake.

Less is often more with boosters, as the interference fringe areas are smaller. Nulls with stock directional booster antennas may be very deep, and you might do better with a few watts nondirectional. The shadow areas are East of the ridge the TL is on and extend into Traverse City.

92.3 seems to be an open carrier more than 99.3 or 101.9. That might be because WBNZ is trying to pick up 101.1 WGRY over the air, which is almost a no-go in Benzie County when there's any enhancement due to WIXX

None of them have any audio, all three are silent carriers. (92.3,99.3,101.9) not sure about wcuz(100.1 or 100.7) as I can’t get it in TC. Also 100.3 has Audio

How dare you question the great and powerful Oz?

I wonder if Blarney Stone simply abandoned the stations.
