99.3 WQAN Signal Strength
99.3 WQAN Signal Strength
When WQON first started simulcasting on 99.3 earlier this autumn and changed the callsign to WQAN, I thought I understood that they were in the process of improving their coverage. However, they don't seem any stronger here in East Jordan today than they were the week they first signed on. I wonder if they've done anything at all. What have others experienced?
For some reason, 100.3 has been unusually weak in EJ the past week or two so I've tried listening to 99.3 instead.

Not to mention that 92.3, after a little bit of time broadcasting sports, has gone silent once again.

Hmm, interesting. Wonder what's going on...

From a technical standpoint, these stations are an unmitigated disaster. How long will it be before "renter's remorse" occurs?

Or Uncle Charlie comes to town. In TX, Henderson had a deal in place to sell one of his sticks, but then the FCC cancelled the license before the sale could close.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 12:28 pmFrom a technical standpoint, these stations are an unmitigated disaster. Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength
I actually sent an e-mail to Blarney Stone to try to determine what power all the old Henderson stations were running at, assuming if Blarney bought them, they had to have had their engineer at the transmitter sites and perhaps would be open to letting me know what the power was/is at those stations, as they're obviously far lower than licensed. Furthermore, I know they're using the same transmitters and power because the only thing that changed with the signals was the content, while the horrid audio and low power remain the same given reception levels.
But no reply. As expected from any/all radio stations who don't give a flying f*ck about listeners (even ones that are really nice to them).
It would be nice at this distance to know the power while DXing since they're totally undocumented. It's not like a station using an STA with lower power where you just check the FCC site. Those stations only come in during serious tropo or enhancement (or in the case of 92.3, only carry programming at all every great now and then), so they've got to be no more than a kilowatt or two.

Can't say I'm surprised. I doubt they'd admit to running less than rated power.

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength
That'd be silly, considering one could just make the argument that that's what was given to them when they bought the stations. Any reasonable person could understand they'd need to be given some chance to upgrade. Of course, with 92.3 still on and off the air, that's another thing. I know 99.3 should be on by now or in the next few weeks. I wonder what's up with them? I have a local on 99.3, so I haven't had the chance to explore that.

Over the last few days, WLDR has seemed stronger in Manistee than it had been
Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength
Was down in northern mason county and wldr comes in well all the way down to us 10 but in ludington it starts to break up. 99.3 or 92.3 don’t come in at all down there. Speaking of 92.3 it’s complelty gone in traverse city too. Wonder if it completely off air? And of course 103.5 comes in like a local and 92.9 gets shredded once on us10. Used to be able to get it downtown too. 95.5 and 98.1 come in fairly well on us 31 but once on us 10 it gets choppy.

Was on M32 in Gaylord today when I saw a Q100 billboard east of Meijer. Tuned in 100.3 then and could barely pick it up. Put it on 99.3 and what I could pick up definitely wasn’t the same song. Kind of sad that they can barely be heard where they place a billboard

99.3 in Gaylord? Gaylord and Grayling are both in the WATZ coverage area for 99.3, so you certainly shouldn't expect it in those parts. 100.3 though... you should have little to no problem with that one.Realist wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:00 pmWas on M72 in Gaylord today when I saw a Q100 billboard east of Meijer. I mean, I can't speak on the station situation, but I speak on the geography issue... mainly that M-72 never comes within 25 miles of Gaylord because it runs through Grayling. But if you're on M-72, then you're really close to 100.3's tower.
They must be on low power for some reason. Some stations were having problems following the big storm on Sunday that was centered on that area. I checked my local 91.1 and noted it was just dead air, so I imagined 90.5 Gaylord was off the air and feeding them nothing.

In Manistee, 92.3 was fairly clear with sports talk yesterday.

Saw a Q100 billboard on US-31 near Free Soil yesterday. Neither station comes close to there as of now

Anything new on this "cluster"? I am still puzzled as to how one can lease stations that are nearly technically impossible to operate.
