WWTV at low power?
Saw a message on 9&10 website that says Channel 9 is operating at low power until further notice.
What's that about?

More info:
https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/datae ... 0&goBack=N
Due to an antenna feed line issue, the station is broadcasting at about 25 percent of normal power.
A crew is going to have to scale the tower and either repair the malady or replace the line. Probably not a quick fix.

Re: WWTV at low power?
My off air picture here in T.C. has been bad for over two weeks. Now I get my signal from the repeater site ch. 25 here and it is full of pixels and tearing of the picture. One of the engineers in Cadillac tells me the T.C. repeater uses an off air pickup for ch.25, so the trouble passed on to my feed. Bum.

Re: WWTV at low power?
I'm surprised the off air pickup is so poor. The receive antenna is probably a 100 feet or more above ground level, I would venture to guess.
Even at 25 percent power, the WWTV signal should be able to get out decently.
That suggests to me WWTV might be using less than 25 percent of licensed power.
Does a CBS stream still broadcast on subchannels of WFQX and WFUP?

Isn't WFUP supposed to be a full-time satellite of WFQX? If so, I am surprised WFUP's channel offerings are able to differ from that of WFQX.

Re: WWTV at low power?
It's not like the old days where a satellite would pull a station off air, and/or have several microwave links to rebroadcast the station at the satellite. Separate subchannel feeds can go to each station.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 11:27 pmIsn't WFUP supposed to be a full-time satellite of WFQX? Speaking on 9and10...who is leaving their Morning Show? There is an ad either on Linked in or MAB for a Morning Anchor....been the same 2 for at least 3 yars...which Up North is "Forever":

Re: WWTV at low power?
They have a red banner on their web site regarding the low-power operation of 9, and "You can also watch 9&10 News on the free VUit app", which must be someone's attempt at humour. It's not worth the price.
As for on-air positions open, they are freely listed on their site:

College grads are coming to replace the 'vets'.
The morning show could use a change. The forced Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! bit is wearing thin.

Re: WWTV at low power?
When they increase the power back up, can we pick it up again down here in the tri-cities?

Re: WWTV at low power?
Is this situation now affecting Fox 32? Am unable to pick up either 9 or 32 here in Manistee today.
Re: WWTV at low power?
It depends a lot on your exact location, antenna, and antenna height. Possibly, but nothing as easy as it was in analog. Midland is much more likely to get a receivable digital signal than Bay City or Saginaw.

Attention viewers using antenna reception: A new antenna has been ordered, and is expected to arrive in mid-June. Channel 9 is operating at low power until then. You can watch 9&10 News on the free VUit app. Thank you for your patience.

"WWTV Reduced Power Notification
WWTV, Fac. ID. 26994, began operating at twenty-five percent (25%) of its authorized power due to a problem detected in its antenna or feed line. The reflective power was unstable and would not allow operation at full power. After two days of investigation, the actual problem has yet to be identified, although it has been determined that the problem is not in house. JC Tower has been engaged to climb the tower for a more accurate determination of the problem as soon as weather permits."

"WWTV Reduced Power Engineering STA
On April 19, 2022, WWTV, Fac. ID. 26994, filed a notification that it was operating at twenty-five percent (25%) of its authorized power due to a problem detected in either its antenna or feed line. The reflective power was unstable and would not allow operation at full power. The problem has now been determined to be with the antenna which must be replaced. Additional antenna damage was incurred in the process of investigating the problem, requiring power to be reduced to eighteen percent (18%) of authorized power.
The new antenna will require that the transmitter also be replaced. Specifications for the new antenna and transmitter are in development and they will be ordered as soon as possible.
Until received and installed, WWTV will be required to continue operation at eighteen percent (18%) of authorized power."

Re: WWTV at low power?
Would be nice if WWTV could be simulcast on WFQX to aid in OTA reception.
These are very expensive repairs. With current supply chain issues, wouldn't surprise me if these repairs take months to complete.
