"Stacks 92.1"

Post by ChrisWL1980 » Sat Apr 04, 2020 1:37 am

So when did this happen? The much-maligned Fuel 92.1 has finally run out of gas. The new format: Rhythmic AC.

I was in Lansing 2 weeks ago, and they were still using the Fuel 92.1 branding and format, so it could have happened just a few days ago.

Based on the station's Facebook page, it appears the flip occurred March 26.

Interesting format choice! Playlist reminds me of 106.7 The Beat of Detroit right after it launched in 2009. The Lansing station seems to have more of an upbeat Urban AC lean (big focus on crossover hits, of course).

Certainly a big improvement over 92.1 Fool FM! Sure would leave to know the identity of the braindead moron who thought 92.1 Fool FM was a good idea.

I hope the new station is successful. I do think a throwback hip-hop and R&B format with a more aggressive sound would've made a much bigger splash, though.

If a station stunts in woods, and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Also, the PD for their country station is handling their rhythm ac? Huh.

Seems bizarre that the PD of the CHR station in the cluster (92.9) wouldn't be handling PD chores for the new 92.1.

So true.

Betting the farmers in Clinton County, where most of the signal is, are delighted with this latest change! </SARCASM>

The farmers in Clinton County haven't listened to that station since it was WRBJ.

Well, it was Country for a while (right before Duke came along).

It didn't sound half bad as a Country station.

92.1 attempted country more than once in the 80s as well, prior to WLNZ, Lansing's Lazer, which is my favorite of all the format wheel spins on this frequency. Lazer was a unique AOR station.

"Stacks 92.1", eh? Sounds like a station where you would find the legendary Dan Drolet pulling a weekend shift or two, perhaps. :blink

Legendary? :razz

No, I hear Dan gave up the weekend boogie years ago. Now if they played actual vinyl, he might be lured back in. Something about old-timers and the joy of cue burn. :D

Not many corporate owned stations are live on the weekends anymore

Well, that too. The upside of technology is that full-time jocks no longer have to put in 6-day work weeks or bother with holiday shifts. The downside is that the weekend jock has pretty much become a thing of the past. Just the way the cookie crumbles.

Excellent! I'm gonna run down and mess with the antenna to better null out 92.3 and see what comes in. I will make a more concerted effort to get this station if it's anything like 106.7 The Beat was 10 years ago.

Jesus. 10 years. Good Lord time flies.
