Deja Vu! WILX Adding "First at 4" Newscast... Again

Post by gotigers » Thu May 04, 2023 5:09 pm

Looks like WILX is giving the "First @ 4" newscast another go around. It starts next Monday, replacing Funny You Should Ask.

They had a 4PM newscast a number of years ago, but it was dropped when they added news to the 5:30 half-hour. Now they'll have news 4:30-7:00 AM, 11:00-11:30 AM, 4:00-4:30 PM, 5:00-6:30 PM, and 11:00-11:30 PM. They also have "Studio 10" 3:00-4:00 and a half-hour 10 PM newscast on MeTV 10.2. That seems a bit excessive for a market the size of Lansing/Jackson, but I guess news is the name of the game these days.

A crappy show such as "Funny You Should Ask" aired at 4PM weekdays on what is the most watched or second most watched station in the market? Good lord. Syndicated programming pickings must've been slim.
Good choice to air news instead, in my opinion.

Wouldn't that be something!?!? Think you could whip up a proposed logo for WILX to use should they take that positioner on?

Good for WILX — building up their station instead of axing jobs like Sinclair is doing in Flint.

I doubt they are adding staff, only adding more workload to those who are currently there. Maybe they add a producer, but I do not see any new faces in their promos. Just rearranging the staff that is already there.

FYSA at 4 sounds weird to me if it's the no. 1 or 2 station in the market. A talk show would seem like a better choice in that slot.

Lansing isn't a major market and can't support local news during off hours got to have syndication, but the newscast is only 30 minutes and not 2 & half hours from 4PM to 6:30PM.

THIS.

It’s just shuffling around bodies to save money on syndication WITHOUT adding the staff to you know…actually fill it with meaningful content that hasn’t already aired 8 times.

And if I’m not mistaken…this is the 3rd attempt at a newscast in this timeslot?

Sounds like they will be local from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with the exception of 4-4:30.

From the title of the thread I thought we'd get a live feed of from Deja Vu in Saginaw.

Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

And I thought 9&10 was bad... "From Northern Michigan's News Leader, this is 9&10 News at 7 on Fox/Local 32"
