No eye!? Are they trying to distance themselves from CBS? This is BS.

I think a lot of stations are doing that. Hell, 9&10 hasn't had the eye since the 70s.

Here in Detroit, even as far back at the 80s, WJBK, which was a CBS affiliate until 1994, identified as TV 2. There was next to no branding or anything like that. Whereas since the 90s, WWJ-TV has been branded as CBS 62. Is it an O&O thing?

One would think local stations would want to advertise the network branding.

You would think, but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least with CBS affiliates. Heritage even took "FOX" off of channel 32 and call it "Local 32." I'm sure that didn't make those at Fox happy.

The local Fox in Boston doesn't use Fox in the branding there is Boston 25 8 or 9 years ago changed it.

Sinclair has been stripping away local network identifiers for years in exchange for gimmicky “Mid-Michigan NOW” branding. It hasn’t made one damn bit of difference. It’s kind of like putting lipstick on a dead pig.

TV5 will remain the top local news station regardless if they have a CBS logo or not Simply because they have the best local newscasts. The networks and their lack of any new programming due to the (now ended) writers strike and the (still ongoing) actors strike just prove how irrelevant networks are these days.

The only question remains is whether networks drop their local affiliates first.. or do groups like Sinclair, Nexstar, Gray, Scripps, Allen, etc. — who are building out NexGen TV and their own streaming platforms — put a knife in the networks’ backs.

I saw the new logo, I loathe it. It just looks wrong without the CBS eye.

Does anyone know the official reason why the CBS logo was dropped from most of the on screen logos? It just doesn't look good without it.

I don't know, but it's a goddamn travesty.

@matt1, what do you know about this?

My guess had to do with network negotiations with CBS, or perhaps, another network. Most of Gray's NBC affiliates have dropped the Peacock from their logos, as well as some affiliated with ABC and CBS (other than WNEM, of course). WTVG Toledo had recently dropped its ABC logo from their station logo.
