When your anchor says your writing sucks
When your anchor says your writing sucks
It’s never a good sign when your main anchor goes on Twitter to complain about the lack of quality in writing from your own reporting, producing and digital staff:

Mike Woolfolk’s not wrong… and the problem isn’t just limited to 25-66. As managers continue to hire more inexperienced staff, even basic grammar, spelling and punctuation are being ignored.

Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
I saw this tweet. It’s never cool to do this. If he has issues with the writing, he should talk about it with the writers. It’s really unprofessional to go on Twitter and air these types of grievances. He should know better.
Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
Although, was this a story from 25 or some other newsroom?

Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
Mike doesn't belong at 25. He is much better than this shoe string budget operation. He is probably very frustrated by the Sinclair slop business model.
Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
Herm: a national story that was posted to 25/66’s website was the focus of Mike’s rant. He didn’t attack any of his colleagues or competitors directly— but he sees the same issues in our local scripts, web copy and social posts. It’s embarrassing since this is our career. Journalism is about words. And many young people getting into this profession have a hard time with proper spelling and grammar.
Whitebalance: you’re right that Woolfolk is better than Sinclair. However, he’s at a point in his career where he just wants to get to retirement in one piece.

So what is Mike doing on his shift to mentor young writers?
Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
BTS: Mike works with younger producers, anchors and reporters daily to improve the quality of our journalism… even though that’s not what he gets paid to do. I wish some of our so-called news managers gave a fraction of the effort that Woolfolk puts in.
Re: When your anchor says your writing sucks
How exactly is it apparent?
Stations write stories about news outside their market constantly.
