WAQP-49 yet more new sub-channels coming soon

Post by MikeBear » Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:16 pm

49.9 and 49.10 have "Coming soon" barker pages up now for some days. Not sure which sub-channels they will be.

They already carry these Katz network offerings:

Bounce TV - A digital broadcast network which specializes in programming for the black community.
Court TV Mystery - A digital broadcast network which specializes in programming for women, featuring series and films focusing on mystery and true crime stories.
Grit - A digital broadcast network which specializes in westerns.
Laff - A digital broadcast network specializing in comedy programming, featuring a mix of feature films and archived sitcoms.
TrueReal - A digital broadcast network which specializes in reality programming for women.
Defy TV - A digital broadcast network which specializes in unscripted programming for men.

That just leaves these three:
Brown Sugar - streaming service featuring 1970s black films and TV series
Court TV - A digital broadcast network specializing in crime-themed programs such as true crime documentary series, legal dramas, and coverage of prominent criminal cases.
Newsy (Newsy Media, LLC) - A digital broadcast network which specializes in nationwide news programing.

Yeah, I was hoping for something better too.

I'm thinking ONE of them will be Rewind TV, which is beginning service on 9/1. https://rewindtv.com/ The other one may be ThisTv: https://thistv.com/

Commercial-laden, no doubt, like the others, but I like the fact of more free alternatives in an area where people are trying to get by on less.

How about FAVE-TV? They have some decent shows (although re-runs). Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Bar Rescue. 62 in Detroit has it.

Looks like 49.10 is going to be "Digi-tv" on September 27th. It's now listed as one of their markets:

Now up and running. 49-9 isn't yet, but the TV ID reports it as Newsy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsy
Looks middle of the road, especially in comparison to the deranged NTD on 24-1.

I was hoping it would be something GOOD. Who needs yet another news channel.

Newsy content is boring, low budget, and intentionally panders to a younger crowd.

I looked at the DigiTV schedule online; the content is crap. That network's programming is geared toward women clearly. It's basically a fourth rate knock-off of HGTV, Food Network and Lifetime rolled into one.

Paul Woods reminds me a bit of the Swedish Chef from the Muppets when he speaks!

Yeah, nobody needs yet another news channel. So, I agree with Newsy being crap.

Basic cable, sure. Ditto the news on Newsy. OTA, not so much. There's no OTA all-news station, and the only real competition for Digi is PBS Create. The point is that these are free alternatives to cable. Don't like 'em? Block them from your channel list; you're not out a penny--unlike cable, where that news channel you hate is still taking your money, blocked or not.

CNN and MSNBC probably have the same kind of deal as Fox.
