I Didn't Know
I Didn't Know
While watching the 6 on Channel 12 last night, I saw a story on the closing of the Church St. bridge over I-96. I-96??? Wow...I didn't know I-96 went thru Flint. They showed the graphic at the bottom of the screen, and Cheri Hardmon even said I-96. Now 12 is on Lapeer Rd., where it parallels I-69 Now you would think that everybody who works at 12 would know this...even the guy that cuts the grass out front. Is everything so bad on the weekend over there that they can't even get that right??? A 5 year old could figure out that it's I-69!!!
Re: I Didn't Know
Flint has become a training ground for anyone who wants to break in to broadcasting. It’s ridiculous. It wasn’t always that way. It doesn’t have to be that way. Our viewers deserve better.
It’s basic journalism, knowing the difference between I-96 and I-69. If newscast producers and reporters who are getting this information wrong can’t handle it, they should be let go.
But it starts with the news directors who hire people who don’t have any experience. They then don’t pay at a rate that would recruit or retain journalists with experience.
GMs snd HR Directors need to push for and support paying for and keeping experienced journalists, instead of pushing them out because they can keep payrolls low.
And we used to have experienced anchors who would proof-read scripts. They are now more concerned about social media posts.
It’s no better here at 25-66 or at TV5. And the cause is the exact same. If there’s not a change of expectations and support from the top on down, we’ll continue to have these rookie mistakes throughout our newscasts.

Re: I Didn't Know
Was watching the Tigers at 6 so I stayed up waiting for the basketball game to end to see who was anchoring, now that ABC12 put their anchors back on their regular schedule this week. Was hoping that it was Mark Bullion, as Charlie Tinker was doing mornings. Unfortunately it was Cherie, who flubbed her first 2 sentences starting the newscast. OMG! She can’t talk coherently when live. I was hoping that ABC12 would have taken her off the anchor desk permanently, as this was a continual issue before COVID.Willie108 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 6:49 amWhile watching the 6 on Channel 12 last night, I saw a story on the closing of the Church St. bridge over I-96. Re: I Didn't Know
Cheri cannot read news adequately. Too many flubs. Too distracting.
Channel 12 continues its decline.

Re: I Didn't Know
I - 96 & I - 69 do get across from Lansing!!!
Re: I Didn't Know
Matt: the Church Street Bridge over I-69 is less than a mile from the WJRT studio.

Pete Veto hiring only the best. Love those high school long shots on the weekends. So stilted and staged. Then, the anchor is miles away saying World News tonight with a smart woman that go out of here Lindsay Davis is up next.
Re: I Didn't Know
Watched today. They can't even get the obits right. I agree, Cheri is horrible on the air. Good reporter, but she should never be on the anchor desk.

Re: I Didn't Know
Considering that the overpass is literally in WJRT's neighborhood, it goes beyond saying it was a rookie mistake -- it's sheer incompetence. If someone even bothered to proofread the script, the "I-96" error would not have spread.sinklair wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 6:32 amMatt: the Church Street Bridge over I-69 is less than a mile from the WJRT studio.
