Bally Sports Hub

Post by sinklair » Thu May 20, 2021 1:36 am

Bally Sports spent millions and millions of dollars to build a new sports hub:

All while owner Sinclair was laying off staff in newsrooms across the country.

To clarify, didn't Sinclair build and pay for this project? Bally is just the company that paid for naming rights to the RNS, correct? I think it would be more accurate to say that Sinclair spent millions for a new sports hub, while laying off staff in newsrooms.

DAC: you’re right. Mixing of the names might get the wrong impression. Bally spent money for naming rights only.

Sinclair is the greedy corporation that raked in the naming rights, spent tens of millions of dollars on the RSN hub, and laid off thousands of employees at its local TV stations to reduce expenses and increase profits... hurting lots of good people.

Being a sports fan, it pains me to say this... But, Sinclair seems to be run much like a professional sports team. The end user is the one paying for a $20 beer, and the lowest rung of employee are the ones losing their jobs due to low attendance or budget cuts or whatever, while the team continues to spend outrageous amounts overall. Maybe if we all can pay $22 for those 16 fl oz cans of beer, Jim Price can finally get that well-deserved raise.

Sinclair says it will start offering up direct to consumer plans for its Bally Sports broadcasts.

https://www.newscaststudio.com/2021/05/ ... r-in-2022/

This may eventually where broadcasting goes. I (and most of America) doesn’t understand why I’m forced to purchase cable and satellite plans that include dozens of stations that I just don’t care to watch, yet have to pay to support.

Cable and satellite companies bundles are usually part of retransmission deals with companies like Sinclair, Gray and Meredith. Retrans fees — which remain an important part of local TV funding models — are eventually passed on to consumers in the form of higher cable bills.

So being able to let customers pick up Bally Sports on OTT directly would seem to be a good option for those of us cord cutters, right? Wrong.

Sinclair continues to play games and negotiates in bad faith with these cable, satellite, streaming providers. In doing so, they are holding its customers (you and me) hostage. And without a plan to replace retrans revenue lost when Bally Sports goes to a direct to consumer pay model, it actually will resort to increased costs.

You think it’s ridiculous to pay $10 for a hot dog at the ballpark. Wait till you see what Sinclair starts charging for you to watch Bally Sports.

Remember: everything Sinclair touches goes to sh*t.

Sinclair projects that it will make $3-Billion in revenue from Bally Sports…

Don’t go out and buy Sinclair stock just yet. It’s given high projections for projects like The National Desk, Full Measure with Sharyl Attikisson, America This Week with Eric Bolling, etc. When these projects flop, which they will inevitably do because of piss poor management, Sinclair tries to make its balance sheet look better by running its last place stations into the ground by cutting jobs and expenses. Until you see this trend stop, don’t believe Sinclair’s hype.

One of the best written articles I’ve seen about why Sinclair/Bally Sports app is destined to fail and cost viewers.

Everything Sinclair touches goes to sh*t.

I miss OTA local sports. No single outlet should have a monopoly on the entire broadcast schedule for any team. Of course, that doesn't matter to MLB, who is the worst culprit in my opinion. They just want $$$. They don't even care about the game, just ways to increase the amount of money it draws. It's a shame. #ManfredSucks
