Salary Increases

Post by sinklair » Tue May 18, 2021 8:56 pm

New report shows that TV salaries across the country are on the upswing:

https://www.rtdna.org/article/rtdna_res ... yndication

However companies like 25-66 owner Sinclair Broadcasting has put in place layoffs and wage freezes over the past couple of years which has only increased the gap between us and the competition.

Wondering if our colleagues at 5(Meredith) or 12 (Gray) are having any better luck with pay raises. Flint has become a starting market for photographers and producers, which is keeping wages down. Didn’t use to be that way. There was a time in the 90s and 2000s when you had to start out in Lansing, Alpena or Marquette before Flint-Saginaw news directors would even consider you.

Did 25/66 make the quota so you get extra $$$ in the paycheck?

Is it because they are no longer considered to be 'tipped workers' because somebody took the 'tip jar' off of the counter in the reception area?

About a year ago, Sinclair sent out a press release patting itself on the back for creating a multi-million dollar fund to help out freelancers who were out of jobs due to the COVID pandemic.

The plan was panned. Sinclair was offering loans that would have to be paid back with interest. Who in their right mind would be laid off, then accept a loan from Sinclair with those types of fees?

No such financial help is coming from the Corporate Death Star as it goes through its fourth round of downsizing in recent years. Where’s the financial help to those employees from a company that falsely claims it cares about us?

Here’s the difference between Sinclair Broadcasting and real broadcasters… while Sinclair continues to lay off employees, freeze wages, and overall drive it’s employees and news division into the ground, 12’s current owner and 5’s future owner, Gray Television, says it’s profits are on the rise and wants to share its improving financial picture with its front line workers with across the board pay raises starting next month.

I’m sure TV5 workers can’t wait for the deal to close and get rid of Meredith. But, hey, I’m sure the burger truck is better than a pay raise…

The burger truck was appreciated. Believe it or not there are people who can distinguish a nice gesture from a great leader and not feel like they’re only doing that to avoid giving raises. Not everything is “evil management”.

BTS: sure. Burgers are yummy. They just don’t pay the bills.

Why does the argument have to always devolve into one choice over another. Why can’t we have good managers who actually pay their staffs a decent wage… AND also do nice things like food trucks?

Gray seems to at least try harder than Sinclair or Meredith.

Want a salary increase? LEAVE Flint/Saginaw.

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

Matt: thanks for the suggestion. Why should I leave? Family and friends are here.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have local stations to pay as much as McDonalds.
