Currently simulcasting U.S.103. Sounds louder than it has in years. Now, if they could just fix 1470...

I had to run to Lake Orion yesterday, and I was certain WLCO had flipped to Sports, as ESPN 1530. To my surprise, I was hearing 1530 in Cincinnati, like a LOCAL signal, around 11:00 AM! When I left around 1:00 PM, WCKY was gone, and WLCO was there. This is definitely outside of CH, so I was surprised to hear WCKY overtaking WLCO.

WLCO BOOMS IN near the Straits between Middays and CH. It's too far from WCKY. The E layer is much lower during Daytime Skywave and favors distances less than 250 miles or so. The E layer gets higher as you get closer to SS and SR, and WCKY is favored because it is 50 kW.
Since most Canadian AM stations and a lot of US AMs have disappeared, Daytime Skywave DX is fun, like AM DX in the 1920s and 1930s, when stations like WREO Lansing, with 500 watts full-time, got QSL requests from MONTANA. It was only on for a few years.
In 1927, WREO was 500 watts on 1300 kHz. There were only five stations nationwide on 1300 at the time.
