30 Rock Special preempted

Post by sinklair » Wed Jul 15, 2020 2:04 pm

It appears the corporate overlords at Sinclair are going to prevent NBC 25 from showing Thursday’s much hyped 30 Rock special. Sinclair and other TV groups like Tegna, Nexstar, Hearst and Gray are upset over NBC’s launch of its new Peacock streaming service.

WDIV and WNWO will not be airing the special either.

WDIV is airing the local special Something Good in it's place, while WNWO will be preempting the reunion/upfront with additional reruns of Family Feud.

30 Rock was one big long boring SNL skit.

If it's in syndication, no station around here seems to be carrying it.

Did any of the NBC affiliates in Michigan air it? I was wondering why WILX was showing Full Court Press at 8:00 on a Thursday.

Ironically, despite being what started this thread, WEYI ended up airing it at it's normal time.

Here's what the other NBC affiliates in Michigan, including out-of-state-based stations with Michigan counties in their Nielsen DMAs, aired:
-WDIV (Graham, Detroit) aired a local special about "the best in humanity" titled Something Good.
-WOOD (Nexstar, Grand Rapids) aired a local COVID special followed by another local special about rising lakeshore levels.
-WILX (Gray, Lansing), WLUC (Gray, Marquette) and WNDU (Gray, South Bend) aired Full Court Press Now: COVID Crisis.
-WPBN/WTOM (Sinclair, Traverse City/Alpena) and WNWO (Sinclair, Toledo) aired two additional reruns of Family Feud.
-WGBA (Scripps, Green Bay) and KBJR (Quincy, Duluth) aired infomercials.

As for the two other NBC affiliates that can be seen normally in Michigan: WMAQ (O&O, Chicago) aired the special at it's normal time, while WJFW (Rockfleet, Wausau) aired Jeopardy! followed by Wheel of Fortune instead.

So apparently, WEYI was the only NBC affiliate in Michigan to show the special as scheduled, no doubt bucking Sinclair's orders to put something else on instead.
